In some states, like California, a majority of academies are run by city and community colleges. In order to be accepted they cannot discriminate farther than any other course of study. Now getting hired is a whole other issue. There are hundreds of academy grads each year that are totally un-hireable.

Charges mean crap. Its the conviction that counts. We all know there are people out there that have filed bogus charges. I'm sure they would look into the charges very hard and most definitely talk to the person that claimed rape initially.

99.9% of agencies I know of will not allow an officer with a prior Felony conviction become an officer. It is insane, and a put down to the public they serve if they would.

As an deputy I would shun any officer I came accross if I discovered they had such a serious crime in their background. As a defense attorney I would blow your integrity out the window.

What planet are you from? No, rape is a felony and that would keep you out of the Academy.

I would certainly hope not!!! A member of any police force must be almost beyond a regular person, if they are to be truly worthy of that position; for they hold in their power the necessary tools that must be used to protect those that they serve. "THE PUBLIC" They must put aside any impulses that may arise at any given time , in any given circumstances, and to do that it takes a person with an integrity that will always stand the test, and a mind without baggage!!!

Were you convicted?

Well, doesn't matter. If you have ever been charged of rape, it probably kills your chances of being a police officer. Sorry, but thats life.

Are you being charged? Or are you convicted? If you are in the process pf being charged you have to wait for the outcome of that. If you are convicted then NO.

Absolutely not.
You need a clean slate.
And even if you had a deal in the case that had your record "whipped" you still would not be able to.

That is a felony you can not become an officer if you have a felony charge on you pending or not.
