She is just cleaning. She is having the equivilent of a period and she has to clean it. If she starts to smell bad and have white goo on her thingy than she is just in heat, it's normal for them to clean there so it dosn't get infected. If you lived in a cage with pee everywhere you would clean alll the time too.

She may be sexually mature (syrians can reach sexual maturity as early as 5 weeks), so technically she could be either pregnant or in oestrus (heat). More than likely, she is keeping herself clean. If the licking become excessive or constant, you should consult a vet. If there is a small amount of discharge from her gential area, it would indicate she is indeed in oestrus. If you got her from a reputable source, or a pet store with small mammal specialists who are informed about hamsters, she is probably not pregnant. Stores with properly informed small mammal specialists tend to sex their hamsters properly, and will not house females and males together.

If, indeed, she is pregnant, you should find out in less than 16 days, since 16 days is the typical gestation period of a syrian hamster.

Be happy that you have such a clean hamster. Yes, there is a possibility of her being pregnant - hamsters can be sexually active as early as 21 days. Yikes, eh? Normally, they're sexually mature at 4-5 weeks, so a seven week old hamster certainly can be pregnant.

if you have had her longer than 17 days, then she's not pregnant.
