It would be hard to choose, but "Hellhound on my Trail" is the most emotionally desperate and powerful of all his songs to me. That line about being buried by the roadside so his "restless spirit can catch a Greyhound and ride," is just devastating.

I also like "Terraplane Blues" a lot because it's funny. A Terraplane was an expensive car back in those days, and Robert likens his woman to a car. The song is all about "getting her motor started" (nudge nudge wink wink). People focus on the sad and serious songs Robert did but he also did songs that were much lighter.

Crossroads, Sweet Home Chicago and Dead Shrimp Blues, hands down the three most influential and best songs Johnson recorded.

hmmmm. Maybe Crossroad Blues simply because it was such an influence on Eric Clapton and I absolutely love the Cream version. For just a great haunting quality then Hellhound on my Trail. But personally the one song I can listen to again and again is one of his lesser known tracks - 'From Four Till Late'. Beautiful.

Terraplane blues but I'd really like to give a big shot to the early recordings of Johnny Shines Robert's partner. He was awesome and didn't get much credit for his music.Try him and let me know!!

Sweet Home Chicago- it's probably the most covered, but RJ did make it rock on the original recording.

My personal favorite(s) would be "Hell Hound's on My Trail" and "Come on in my Kitchen" (love the Almans cover), but for the best (and most influential) I would have to vote for "Crossroad Blues".
