Your community animal shelter is a good place. They need folks to do everything from cleaning out the cages to walking and socializing with the dogs. You may well find you love the work and voluntarily go back once or twice a week once the conditions of your sentence are met.

I had to do some for school, so I volunteered to help my local Aids Alliance. I stuffed a lot of envelopes & went to rallies & passed out free condoms. Pretty easy, but still doing some good.

My sister used to work at the YMCA and she had community service workers serving their hours there often (as long as they weren't sex offenders).
