I was assigned an art project of something that i saw or experienced that inpacted me while I was in Spain. I decided to paint a flamenco dancer and a bull. I enjoyed painting it but i dont know if its any good. This is my first time drawing and attempting to paint and was wondering if i have any talent before i go and buy all the art stuff.

Bull: this was my practice before going on canvas with the dancer since ive never painted before

yes, very nice for a beginner. I'm an artist and spent 4 years in college studying the arts. So, you have great talent and I would say that you will carry your talents even further if you learn all mediums. I would have liked to see the Flamenco dancer but the bull is well enough. Acrylics are not easy to work with. I've experimented with the acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolor, charcoal, airbrush, graphite, color pencil and a hand full of others and have discovered my comfort zone. I have sharpened my skills with the use of my most desired tools, water color, color pencil, graphite and a little bit of airbrush to apply certain effects such as clouds in a landscape for example. I've always found it best to learn by demonstration. if you have a professor who does allot of in class demos, pay attention and ask allot of questions. I like your choice in content by the way. The key is to have an interest in what you're painting. Fruit baskets and toilet paper still life's always bored me which was a bad reflection on the instructor. But keep up the good work and paint that same bull 10 times and compare the tenth with the 1st and you'd be amazed at the end result. Thats what inspires and drives artist...personal growth. It's been 20 years since my college years came to closure and I now work in the production industry as a graphic designer. So, I've taken all the conventional application and applied that to Photoshop and Illustrator so I can make a comfy living. Nice bull. work on your craftsmanship. Thats not an insult. I'm just suggesting to take your time and strive for perfection when it comes to the arts. But you're on the right track. Good luck.

I like the bull best....it has good mass to it, especially in the right half portion. The Flamenco dancer is a little flat, but interesting, more like an illustration than a realistic piece. Very nice for a first time though! Try finishing the background in the bull picture to make it look even more massive and alive!

I like it! The dancer is excellent. Animals are difficult if you haven't studied anatomy but the bull is not bad at all.

When painting animals it's all about bone-structure and muscles. Find a good book in your library on anatomy. Keep it up!

As a working artist and an art teacher I can solidly say you have a wonderful natural talent. Create, experiment and work on your art everyday-you will see.
Keep up with working inspired ideas of your own.

I think it's pretty! I especially like the Flamenco. You have artistic ability that other people do not, so buy that art stuff and strengthen your art skills!

Your design sense is great .... and your colors exciting. You seem to have an innate sense for the positive and negative areas and what makes them work. Just keep at it and keep testing yourself.. try new techniques, be positive... and work at it as much as you can. Art is a process, not an end:) Well done and good luck!

Yes, you do! Even if the hands are bad, they aren't really the focus of it and it does not stand out. It's all really pretty, go on with your project! It'll be great!
