it seems like people are chosing very dark avatars in the last little while....
is there a reason?

That is precisely why I have chosen a bright lime green coat in my avatar's ensemble...I may even dye my hair.
Are you speaking of tonal hues or rather that many have chosen to represent themselves with characters associated with the "Dark Side"

I google imaged fallen angel and this is the one I liked best..yeah it is a wee bit darker than my skinny necked avatar girl
