ok i have a 1989 ford probe lx and it has a bad problem stalling out right after it starts unless i have my foot on the pedal. it will even stall out when i am braking or just rolling when the revs drop below 1000 does anyone know what the problem with this could be
ive heard head gasket and injectors but i want to see if it could be a simpler problem before i go and rip my engine out

Remove the air intake hose that runs between the throttle body and the air cleaner assy and inspect it for cracks, a crack in this hose will cause the problem you have described and it is quite common.

A vacuum leak or the iac valve. Head gasket or injectors wont cause this, as long as it is running on all the cylinders.

It could be a dirty throttle body,or it could be the throttle position sensor(TPS). or it could be the fuel pressure regulator is going. I would try cleaning the throttle body first. If that does not work I would take it to a garage that can read any computer codes it may have and check the sensors too.

Before you start spending too much on it try replacing your idle air control (or try cleaning the one thats on there). Its a simple piece to change and will cause exactly what you are describing.
