why do people always think, when you say that you belong to a group of people with semi-pagan semi-own beliefs they think you worship satan? iv tried explaining that i dont believe in satan but they dont believe me. I dont rant about it but sometimes i hear peopke having a go at "those pagan nutters" and i have to defend myself and my beliefs. why do people automatically think that?

Because unfortunately that's gotten a lot of bad rap over the years, that paganism is Satan worshiping. And unfortunately this world tends to condemn what they don't understand. I happen to a Pagan and she is the most loving, the most earthly and peaceful woman I know. She's got a huge green thumb and a big heart.

On here, I wouldn't be surprised by anything you hear. Out in the real world, a lot of Christians I personally know wouldn't treat you that way.

Christians do believe, however, that you are worshipping Satan, regardless if you think he exists. You are being decieved - not that you are intentionally a follower of Satan. They beleive that the devil has cast a snare for you, showing you what you like to believe in and will snap the trap shut when you die claiming your soul. Or even sooner, by turning your soul against G-d and causing you to go against the laws of G-d.

Hopefully that makes a little more sense to you. I know when I was Pagan I was treated badly by people who claimed to be Christian but really weren't. Those that truly followed the belief system treated me with respect. Also, Hollywood often show them as followers of Satan, which doesn't help things.

If a thumper hears that you don't believe what he believes, he automatically defaults to satan worshipper. There are no grays in religioville, only black and white. Colors, of course, are the devil's tools. The false dichotomy is the religionist's favorite argument technique, with the straw man a close second. Their minds have been so twisted by their 'faith' that they can't even perceive those shades of gray, those subtle tints. I know that I paint with a broad brush here, and that is my intent. Of course there is a continuum of religious belief, from weak to strong, but I feel that all vestiges of belief must be wiped from the face of the earth before humanity has any hope of achieving our true potential. Or indeed, of even surviving.

Apparently, they are ignorant of the correct definition of the word "pagan" for starters. Also, they may be so brainwashed that they do not have room in their lives for anything other than what they've been taught since they were born. I happen to be Christian, but do not even believe in satan, so could not accuse someone of worshipping that which does not exist. I have several friends who are pagan, in the real sense of the word, and I respect their spirituality as much as I respect my own.

Because they are ignorant and will try to judge you even though they don't even know what's the "real meaning" of Pagan or other Spiritual beliefs. Millions of people are also very close minded and they will only believe what their "church leaders" will tell them to believe, specially Catholics and Christians. What they say to you shouldn't matter, always follow what your heart "tells" you.

Not ALL Christians and Muslims do that.

I think because people hate what they fear and fear what they don't know. If they can compartmentalize everything into nice neat little categories with shiny organized labels they feel they have control over something they know nothing about.

Don't defend yourself. People are either going to get it or not.

They'd say it about everyone. They'd say atheists worship satan, if atheists worshiped a deity -- but since atheists don't, xians try the next best thing -- questioning an atheist's morality.

The same reason people believe atheist/agnostic have no morals.

Anything other than mainstream religions is seen as a little weird. From a Christian perspective, anyone who's not for God is against Him.
