American Science and Surplus has an amazing array of gadgets, devices and materials, both mechanical and electrical at very good prices. Their store is fun to browse if you are near Chicago. Go to www.sciplus.com

When I'm doing a robot project i buy sheet aluminum from a R/C hobby supplies vendor. Sheet steel and billets from a local metal provider M&K Metals (www.mkmetal.net) in Torrance Calif. (I'm in Long Beach Ca)
I craft my own parts. if you need someone to make parts for you you need to find a local 'machine shop'.
