I think are there are parts to what you ask....one has to do with free will and the other with why we are here. While I believe in God, I don't believe in a God that has us by strings like little puppets. When we were given free will, we either have it or we don't...not just have it when it's good and then it disappears when it's bad. I don't see God raping or killing..I see other people making those vile choices. I believe we are all here to learn all the lessons we can, make personally good choices that we will someday be responsible for, and eventually move on and learn from all here, both good and bad. And if you think of much of the bad stuff in your life, isn't that when you learned the most? Sadly when things are good, our souls don't really have to push past their comfort zones or look for lessons or have reason to change. Granted some bad things are SO bad it seems unreal that a loving God would permit it. But where would that free will line be?

Then I think there is the bigger picture. If, our time here really is just a blink of an eye in the eternal picture, and we came here to learn lessons we couldn't get 'at home,' then I think it makes more sense. Well at least a lot of it. I believe some behaviors here will never make sense...but then again so many of us have the ability to stop much of the bad that goes on and we don't. For that I think the fault should go to the ones responsible....those doing it and those not stopping it. Where there are starving children why aren't we feeding them? This plant has more than enough food to feed everyone twice over. I could make an entire list like that. Man could fix so much of what is wrong if he made that choice and took responsibility for things. But so often we don't bother, but we want it done--just without us doing it!

But at the end of the day, I think we are learning from our lives what we need to and when we do die and find out how these lessons make sense and what we learned, we will understand why we went through what we did. And since we will then be in a place without sufffering, or conflict or pain I think it will be easier to accept the lessons and let go because we will KNOW that everything really is ok.

And to answer your additional quesion, why does a parent let a child burn their hand on a hot stove? Not because they want the child to suffer, but they want the child to LEARN! They want the child not to do that in the future and to prepare them for a future. So yes, I think sometimes even though it kills you, you let a child suffer for their own learning. Especially since they can be hurt far worse if they don't learn that lesson.

He has put people on this earth We could be His hands helping stop these things. Why do we expect Him to do what we could be doing? You believe these things are wrong. Are they absolutely wrong? If so then where does the idea that this is wrong and not just an inconvenience or a matter of opinion come from? If there is an absolute then there must be somewhere that absolute came from. Now you will find that it is religious groups that are doing the most to correct these problems. Being His hands and feet.

Jenny. You may take some comfort in process theology. Process theology upholds the existence of God, but does not hold for a God who is omnipotent, or all-powerful. Because God created humankind with individual free will, God did not, in fact, may not, hold authority over that will. If we corrupt our world by misuing our free will, we have brought down these problems on ourselves as a human race in time and space. Another approach is to follow strict Calvinism that states that all that happens on earth is the will of God and we cannot hope to understand it. Frankly, I think that more people take comfort in process theology than in Calvinism. Another way to look at it is that God chooses not to intervene because we have invited atrocities into our world by living as we did/do and now we are being allowed to learn the consequences of that living. There is no way to prove the existence of God, but there are ways, theologically, by which one may become reconciled to God's perceived place in time and space.

First, God's goals are not your goals. Your wisdom is foolishness before Him. You have no way of knowing what means are necessary to make a spirit grow, and become more useful/ loving/ beautiful. God is Spirit, and His goals for us are Spiritual. What happens to the body is irrelevant. We can only see the back of the tapestry, with the knots and the cross-stitching plainly visible. God can see the finished side. He tells us that it is beautiful. I choose to believe Him.

Bad things happen because we live in an imperfect world. There is no non-spiritual revenue that you can gain in this world. Religion, other than making you feel good, profits you nothing in this life. It is in the next life that all things are made right.

“Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” John 6:62-63

God did not, nor could not, create such horrors as you list. What God does not create can have no existence. Nothing opposes God. Nothing unreal exists.

God knows there is nothing from which to be protected. "He" only knows His beloved, and His beloved remains innocent, whole (holy); nothing can change our true state of being, that of perfect peace.

What you're looking for is within you. I know you want to believe that there is a God, but I honestly don't believe he exists. If you need to follow a religion, I suggest Buddhism. You don't have to do all it says. Just pick the pieces you like. Also, Pangel would be a great person for you to talk to in here.

Another person who would help you is Vinslave.

Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve our world is unfortunately filled with sin...sin which includes abuse, rape, murder, etc. However, that doesn't mean God loves us any less. Sometimes things in life happen that we don't always understand nor agree with, but we just have to have faith that The Lord has our best interest at heart. Continue to seek Him and pray that He gives you faith and understanding.

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
~Romans 5:1-5 (New International Version)~

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
~Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version)~

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance."
~James 1:2-3 (New International Version)~

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. "
~Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)~
