Ok Iam a Christian. A true believer in the first degree. Yet my mother raised me with the manners not to shove my beliefs down other peoples throats if they are uncomortable with them. I respect other people's beleifs and such. So Why Why WHY am I by simpily being Christian accused of trying to convert Athiests? (ecspecially when I am only defending why I have my faith) And Why are they continuiously trying to shove THIER ideas down MY throat?

And I am NOT talking about the R&S forum. I'm talking about the REAL world
I DO have friends in other religions and even an odd athiest or two in the bunch. I just want to understand.

If I read your question and 'edits' accurately,

Seems that you would like this forum to be more 'live and let live' ..share and share alike...AND 'someone' always gets contentious and/or on the offense. You state, "I just want to understand"...and I think that is admirable.

I just came from reading the posts re: hitler's hatred for the Jews...and I see a striking parallel between the two issues:

hitler hated the Jews because 'they' were God's chosen people and atheists / deists / agnostics and terminally confused hate those who have a solid foundation in our beliefs and Lord. Therefore, attack !! Undermine !! Obfuscate !!! Shift the ground, i.e. so many comments about 'throat' and so on.

So, in the real world, for me, it remains a matter of a sane, logical, informative answer(s) to (what appear - honest questions) with 'no agenda' ..I don't need to convert, convince, befriend nor rescue anyone here. I just want to share some tidbits that I've learned. Ohh, and it is FUN to goad the atheists sometimes. ROFL

In truth there are a lot of Christians who DO push their beliefs at people, just as there are also Athiests who will be found doing the same thing....I think you're right to some extent, it should be an opinion based on the individial person (i.e. you, me or the random athiest.) and not just assumed because they belong to that religion. however in saying:
"Why are they continuiously trying to shove THIER ideas down MY throat?"
you're making the same kind of generalization that you're asking others not to make about you. just something to consider, really.

You've already gotten alot of answers to this- but I have to say that I agree with Bill S.

Bitter people- give bitter, angry answers. You are allowed to answer how you believe and so are they. Let it be so. If it offends you, look the other way. It is a computer screen, be thankful it isn't a real person.

never argue louder, always argue smarter. Apologetics can be a wonderful thing. Get them to the point where they get angry because they can say no more. Then you will have succeeded more than most ever could.

Some of us do get angry when people attempt to defend the indefensible.

As an example of this, we need look no farther than the outrage over President Bush's pardon of Scooter Libby. We all know that he didn't pardon anybody while he was Governor of Texas, and we can be reasonably certain that he wouldn't have pardoned Libby if Libby wasn't good buddies with the Vice President.

People are angry about it because the administration has come up with no better argument than, "it's okay because the president says it's okay and he's the president so there you go." And they expect us to take this and like it.

If you're like most Christians (and I don't mean that as an insult), then I'll venture to guess that your atheist correspondents probably don't find your arguments very convincing, and they've told you so. You probably find this annoying, so you argue louder -- not better, just louder. And when they remain unconvinced, then at some point you probably resort to insisting, "well, you just gotta respect my beliefs anyway."

And let me guess: That's when the nonbelievers get mad. For one thing, we hear that non-argument every damn day. But more importantly, we don't gotta respect anything that has no basis in evidence, and you have no business telling us so.

Now you know.

I had the same problem in one of my history classes. I made the point that Jesus and God are one in the same and one of my classmates said this was a history class. No big, I kept the peace. So, maybe a couple weeks later we were talking about the muslim faith and she started promoting her faith as a muslim. Again, I kept the peace. But, I think what it is non-believers sense that what we are teaching them the truth, however they will turn to other religions who don't view Jesus as Lord so they can continue to do what they want to do thinking that God is not going to judge them. That's what the devil want them to think. Remember we don't fight aganist flesh and blood, but the principilities of Satan. I feel ya, completely. Religion is a complicated subject. Plus, religion is man made attempts to worship God by their own efforts. The only way to God is through Jesus Christ. The important thing is you have introduced them to the gospel of Christ, now it's up the the non-believer to allow the Holy Spirit to make the words real in their heart that they will repend and ask Jesus to come into their hearts to save them. So don't worry, keep on doing what ya doing. If they are non-responsive that means you have touched something within them.

You know, I think Independant 009 have a good point there. I honestly with all my heart and might believe in Yahweh/Jehovah God. I accept Yeshuah/Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. But as I am sitting here typing and thinking what Independant answer is, I have to agree with him. All what is Holy to God belongs in His temple (church) not splattered all over ungodly places. I mean the Government buildings are the least Holy place because of the politicians that are tremendously corrupt, making "ungodly laws" (abortion), making laws to "oppress" the poor, and not to mention "HYPOCRITES" that spit on the Bible and defile God's own Laws!
We must fight back and say, "Take God's Holy Belongings out of the Government buildings!" Its a disgrace to God. "Get away from me you hypocrites. Don't take God in vain."
That is the TRUE reason as of why the Ten Commandments don't belong in the Government buildings. The Government itself don't follow it anyway. Its like their taking God as a second rate and slapping God in the face.

lots of generalizations here. i are not getting aggravated once you hyperlink atheists to communists. Communism wasn't relatively a foul concept, it basically have been given perverted (very like Christianity) via the grasping and ability-in seek of. i'm no communist, yet we actual would desire to do extra for the less advantaged and much less for the firms who're putting individuals out of artwork. basically for the checklist: the only time i'm getting aggravated via Christians is whilst they declare they're being "oppressed and persecuted" via our "Liberal society." What a crock of sh*t. What they're relatively whining approximately is they're attempting to persecute each and every physique else via forcing their doctrines into rules and the form retains slapping them down. I additionally get somewhat uninterested in being advised i'm stupid, ignorant or silly because of the fact i've got not got self belief in gods. i do no longer inevitably prefer to abolish faith, yet particular, i think we are by no skill going to mature as a species until eventually we get the non secular followers of each and every faith decrease than administration, and get faraway from mythology often. look on the communicate for the duration of this usa over "sensible layout," it is Creationism in sheep's clothing. it is the way for the religionists to get the bible into publicly-funded colleges. we are the only usa in the international the place this debate is even occurring. it is shameful. faith works very complicated against technology, because of the fact if there are medical motives for each thing, they'd't element to a phenomenon and say "Behold! the skill of God," and that they'd't arise with the money for to lose that form of impact. And answering questions approximately gods is my way of fostering debate and getting human beings to think of. The unfastened substitute of concepts, and the splendid to disagree, is what retains our democracy energetic.

I think it's a simple matter of responding in kind. You talk about why you have your beliefs, so athiests talk about theirs (or lack thereof). If we seem to shove our ideas down your throat, it may because that's what Christians try to do to us. Maybe, we are simply stating our own beliefs and you take as trying to shove our beliefs down your throat.

You are minding your matters. A lot of people get upset over any topic that includes Christianity. It doesn't matter what it entails they just suddenly believe that they are being preached at. Which is what they have been taught. They have come to believe by the stories of others that all Christians out there are ready to pounce at a moments notice and start preaching without end.

Most atheists I have seen on here are have tunnel vision about trying to change other people's minds. They call them uneducated, stupid, illiterate, etc. Claim that these people have no ideas of their own and blindly follow a book of hate. It is the atheists, I have found, that are the dispensors of hate, bigotry, prejudice etc. They have no proof of their own, despite their claims of absolute proof, so they attack the personal.

Which is what you are seeing here. Don't be bothered by it. Regardless of how you behaved they would treat you the same way. Allow them to live their lives of anger, determined to crush as many along the way as possible. It is their own prison, and they are free to lock themselves inside as long as they want.

You haven't given a specific example so it's hard to give you an intelligent response. Some Christians, not necessarily you, seem to get defensive just because a non believer posts their thoughts here.
