Go to Jones Beach or Montauk! Or go to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City (they have an IMAX theater, they'll be showing Harry Potter on IMAX!).

Some of the coolest and cheapest shoppings are in NYC. All the museums are very cool, from the BODY exhibit to Dinasours in Natural History museum and all the cool arts in MOMA and MET. There is a magical energy rush about Manhattan and all NYC, that you can spend all day out of your apartment. NYC is all about living life and enjoy every minute of it. Your apartment is only for resting for few hours at night. Sure in California you have more space, but without a car you can't make it and there aren't much to do, but stay in your house!!! Central Park is one of the best places on the earth for kids to be in, and it beats any backyard on anyday. Try to get in some crazy VIP club in LA for hours and still you will not get in! Then you have to be flashy for people to respect you or listen to your story. California sucks...

LOL, you live in NYC!!! People come from all over the world to spend and invest millions of dollars in NYC tourism every year. I think you can probably find quite a bit to do. (I know what you mean, though. I'm from NY and never visited the SoL until I moved to Georgia!)
How long would it take to go see the Statue of Liberty? How about the Holocaust Musem (fascinating)?

Long Island has some of the greatest and prettiest beaches in the world - Jones Beach and Robert Moses to name two. I would guess you don't like the beach, however, so go to the mall - Sunrise, Roosevelt Field, Smithhaven. If that's not your cup of tea, go to the city and hang out in Washington Square Park.

take the LIRR into Penn Station, you have the entire city of Manhattan at your disposal. I am assuming, since you live on Long Island, you know all there is to do in NYC.

hahahhahaha@nothing to do in new york.. dont u love walking in and out of buildings all day long? or walking thru central park? i would be depressed and go to the bar and get drunk and wished i lived in california :P
so the fun things to do in new york is walkin inside of buildings then walk out and go into another building then go back home which is in another building packed with other people in them so there is no privacy and u can hear other couples having sex all night or men fighting there wives? it feels good living in cali we have backyards where ur kids can run around and have ur own pools and there is many things to do instead of living in a 40 story building crammed in like roaches lol.. i give yall credit for having a beach but whats the use of it when its so cold. nobody can jump into the water bcuz u have to worry about ur body temperture dropping.. we have women in bikini's while yall have women in sweaters and big jackets lol on the beach. and alot of the real new york women act like dudes lol

go to the city and go to the hershey store in times square or u can go on a shopping spree at loehmanns (on 74 and broadway, upper west side)
u could go on the circle line or u can just go to the movies.
i live in nyc and i love nyc
