Ever notice that most pastors are the richest members of their community. Why does loving Jesus costs so damn much? I was going to send my kids to college, but after paying 10% of my income before taxes I don't know if I can do it. Why doesn't my pastor pay taxes and drives a $125,000 car? He tells me that he knows for a fact that everyone can afford to give God 10% of their sallary, and if I don't I will be paying for it in a lake of lava.

Loving Jesus dont cost anything.. Tithing is just being obediant..
My Pastor is not the richest person in the Church by any means... We pay him an awesome salary, he lives in the pastorium, but he is not rich by any means
However yours is wrng by telling you that you will go to hell for not tithing... I would run for my life from a Church like that!

In the past people were taught that the poorer you were the more spiritual you were. They had the misconception that you couldn't go to heaven unless you were dirt poor. Many people still believe that the Pastor is supposed to be the poorest person in the congregation and that is just wrong.
Unless your Pastor is a Catholic priest or has taken a Vow of Poverty, he DOES pay taxes. I don't understand why he can't drive a $125,000 car instead of a Volkswagen if that's what he wants.
If you read your Bible, you should know that we are told to pay our tithes which is 10%. I have paid tithes and given offerings for over 25 years and I CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO PAY TITHES. If your Pastor said you would go to Hell for not paying tithes, he was wrong. Disobedience to the Word of God carries a penalty in this life. If you aren't going to do what God asks you to do, why should you expect Him to do anything for you?

I don't agree with your pastors ideas. I believe it is important to give back to God a part of what he gives you. I don't think pastors should live like that when there are people in their congregation that are in need of money. I guarantee your pastor could do something way better to bless the body of Christ then to use all of the tithe to buy himself a car. That is just wrong. The money you give to the church should go to God. Only a very small part should go to help the pastor, and the pastor should take ONLY WHAT HE NEEDS. No more, no less.

All the pastors I know in this area have a second job during the week to pay their bills. The tithes are to support the costs of the church and for mission projects to spread the word of God. Sounds like your pastor is using the churches money for his own benefit.

Sounds like you need to run, not walk, from that church.
Loving Jesus doesn't cost a thing, monetarily speaking, and it's wrong to assume that EVERYONE can pay 10% of their income.
Look up the story in the Bible about the widow giving pennies to the church.
I have noticed, however, that when I give generously to my church that my husband and I have plenty of money to provide for ourselves, still have money in savings, AND have extra left over. Yet we're not rich. We're a single income household, and he's in the military.
Oh, by the way, my church isn't tax exempt, and my pastor is also in the military.

Your pastor isn't Jesus. He's a man.
Tithing is a sign of faith and of the understanding that all you have is God's anyway.
This, I believe, is why there are many Christians out there who never see the inside of a church. They give to charity or share generously when asked, but they understand how easily the lines blur and gray areas grow when a mere man stands as the representative of God.
My belief? I'm not sold on burning in hell if you don't tithe, but it does seem pretty clear that you're doing a good enough slow-burn over giving. Don't give out of fear but out of love and faith. You don't have to send it to the church secretary to know you've tithed.

I think you're going to the wrong church. Your pastor drives a $125,000 car???
At my church, the pastor gave up being a CEO of a hospital and took an enormous cut in income to devote his life to the church.
Churches are supposed to be non-profit entities. The leaders should not be getting rich. You need to really look somewhere else; yours sounds corrupt.

If you truly paid your tithes, you would not be at a loss for money. Tithing is merely giving God 10% of what he has already given you. He gives you 90% and the increase. What is wrong with that?
