There is no word with + in its centre in English.
What you are writing about is a grammatical description of a sequence of words, one being a preposition, the next a verb to which one has to add the ending -ing .
For instance in the sentence "When singing, she forgot some notes": When + sing, to which one adds "ing"

Or
"He was paid for working late": for+ work +ing ending.
"He went after finishing his work": after+ finish/ing.
"She washed her hands before cooking": before + cook/ing

I have tried to make it as easy as possible and I hope it helps.

I THINK you mean how does adding the -ing suffix change the meaning of the verb? Adding -ing to a verb makes it a noun. For example : Swimming is John's favorite sport. (name of the action) He swims every day.(the act itself.)
It is also used to form the progressive tenses of the verb : John IS SWIMMING at this meet. John WAS SWIMMING this morning.

Verb Noun
play playing
sing singing
eat eating
run running
and so on....

As for the other one (prep+verb+ing) I dont think it occurs in English. Can you give an example?

Making a word into a verb.

"Xerox" may be an example.

It was a company name, but nearly everyone knows that
to "Xerox" something means to make a copy of it.

verb is something you do.
every sentence has a verb. it is a word that describes a action. like run, give, walk, going.

my teacher thought it to me this way (using Snoopy's dog house)

preposition- word like in, top, over, behind, under, etc. you can go in Snoopy's house. you can go behind Snoopy's dog house. you can go around Snoopy's dog house.

i hoped this helped
