You won't see potato chips at a high society function, but if you did, no fork would be necessary. Chips are a finger food.

If it is that high society then they likely will not even serve potato chips. If they do, chips are definitely a finger food, you couldn't possibly pick up with a fork or even a spoon. If they are served, just avoid them until you see someone else eating them and see how they are managing.

Just the fact that there are potato chips at the function says that it is more on the casual side, and it would be correct behavior to use the 5 prong utensil provided at the end of your arm.( FINGERS ) in case you re confused HA!-HA!
IF you attend a high society function where they serve finger food then it,s acceptable to use your fingers, keep a napkin handy though, clothing you wear at that type of a function doesnt take well to greasy fingers.a good host/hostess provides finger bowls when serving finger food.
good luck

If it is a high society function potato chips should not be served. If it is served just don't eat it so that you don't use your fingers, and also you should not be chasing it . In other words forget it.

Oh goodie. Yet another bored internet user who forgot to take their medication today.

Everyone knows you don't use a fork when eating potato chips - so your question is completely superfulous.

The actual standard is a SPOON. It is a major social faux pas to use the long-handled teaspoon or a huge tablespoon....you want to appear that you are not genuinely hungry at any given society function, so be sure to use the delicate soupspoon, extending your pinky slightly as you sup.

Now, kindly think up a REAL question, please? The rest of us are bored with the likes of YOU.

The caterers should provide each place setting with a chip snarker. A utensil not unlike asparagus tongs.
