OK, so I know the first response is probably a big fat no, but I want people to think about this. If Christiandom is basically half man-made, than how do we define the great line? I grew up in Sunday school, so don't try to convert me. I'm already there. I mean, churches make up their own rules based on what they believe is truth. The only basis for going to heaven is believing that Christ died and rose again in three days and giving your life to Him. If that's the only requirement, then why do people judge others so much? The Bible even says that the "one without sin" can cast the first stone. If that's true, then why do the self-righteous think it's their job to determine who goes to Hell? As many know, there is Christian rock, punk, and hip hop. What is your personal view or conviction about listening to this music or making it? Also, I realize that we are called to a higher standard of living once we give our life to Christ, but non church goers are NOT another species.

Actually my response is a big, fat YES!
Of course...
Jesus was accused of eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners... why? Because he sees the heart rather than the outside paint.
I was so happy to find a passage that reached out to my heart once when I was being too self righteous about something in my own life. It said that those who focus only on being completely righteous... do so to their own death. It means... if you try to align yourself to your own idea of perfection (or someone else's idea of perfection)...it will kill you.
God says... to love Him with all you heart, strength, mind and soul...
and, to love others as you love yourself...
That is the path to follow... with Jesus leading the way. But, it is a path...not a beauty salon.
May God bless you...
I personally like funky jazz and old rock and roll...

Quote: "The only basis for going to heaven is believing that Christ died and rose again in three days and giving your life to Him."
And giving your life to Him... That is where the difference is.
You have to think about what it means to make Him your Lord.
It's not about how close we can get to looking like the world and still be "right"--like a sheep in wolf's clothing--but how close we can get to Him. If you've been delivered from the world and its influences, why would you want to look like it? If Christ is everything to you, the best thing that has ever happened to you, why would you want to reflect worldliness back to the world?
Now, whether people put you in hell or not, it really isn't their call to make. However, it is easy to look at a person's life and know whether they are a Christian or not. That isn't the same as judging someone. Paul said,
Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
He didn't say treat them as worthless scum, hate them, and condemn them to hell (as if we have any power to, anyway). He was saying that you know the goods when you see it, and stay away from those who don't have it.
So, I think your answer lies in the Bible. Do what Jesus told you to do. If you're a Christian, you won't hide your light under a bushel, but will place it on a hilltop for all to see. You will be different from the world.
I hope that helps.

Seems like individuals have a few style confusion. Some well bands- Emo: Texas is the Reason, The Gamits, The Get Up Kids, Rites of Spring, Indian Summer, Piebald. Screamo: Mohinder, I Hate Myself, Nitwits, Swing Kids. Indie: Pavement, The Apples in Stereo, Beulah, The Weakerthans, Elliott Smith, Half-Handed Cloud, Sufjan Stevens, Neutral Milk Hotel. These bands possibly distinct from what you'll assume from their genres, chiefly the emo/screamo bands. This is what truly emo/screamo is.

Christians are called to be "in this world, but not of this world." If you can do that as an punk or emo(whatever the heck that is) then yes. If you can't, then No.
The bigger questions is, What can I do to remain faithful to my christian values. For some people, that's burying themselves in a church without "worldly" contact. Not the best approach. For others, they can shine their light for others to see anywhere. Remember your calling is to live a Christ like life.

My personal view is that a person can be punk, emo, goth, rocker, or WHATEVER and still be a Christian.
To be a Christian means to be Christ-like. It doesn't mean that we all have to listen to only gospel music, and dress preppy.
I may not DRESS gothic, but my music and my outlook on life most definitely IS. And I'm a Christian.

Think about this. By the standard that we rate Punk and Emo. That is excactly what Jesus was. In his time. He was both. Jesus Christ Superstar, although I really didn't dig it, was probably the way everyone saw the Jesus scene. so Rock on.

Any kind of music that does not bring Glory and Worship, and Praise and Honor to God is a sin. But if the above applies, it doesn't matter what type music it is. God said "Bring unto me a new sound".
