In Sanskrit "Iha" means " Here, this mundane world"
Whereas "Para" means "There..that immortal world"
Narayana is "Paratpara" because He is even "BEYOND THAT IMMORTAL WORLD"

Hindu faith says that God cannot be bound to any particular type or name or form or any other tangible thing. God is always all that and more. Idol worship is okay because God is in the idol as also everywhere else. But saying that God is in the idol alone is incorrect. God can be given any loving name - and most Hindu gods have more than 108 names. Yet, these names are not enough to contain God. So the 330 million names by which Hindus address God are all correct and unique - but not sufficient. That is why it is easy for a Hindu to pray to Jesus or Allah with the same fervor as any other God. In Hinduism, God is famous for the stories he weaves. He himself comes as a demon and also as it's slayer - thereby showing to other souls that truth is divine. God has three basic forms that of the creator, the preserver and also the destroyer. And God is beyond that. That's why the term Agochar ... incomprehensible.

Paraatparam is beyond the beyond=beyond everything-both Lord-God-Siva and Lord Vishnu are addressed by this term.
There is a song by sri.Paapanasam sivan:-
"Paraatpara-Parameswara-Parvathipathaye-Hara-Pasupathaye"(all Lord Siva's names-unequivocally)
Parvathipathye Hara Pasupathye is missing
Another way of looking at it is:
Aparam= the Jevaathman inside the body
Param=Paramaathman outside the body-immanent
Param+Aparam=Paraaparam--this is adwaitha view -"Anthar Bahischita Sarvam= inside and outside the body the all pervasive, all imbibisive.immanenet lord Siva or lord Naraayana.

Pratpar means the one who is
- beyond three gunas
- beyond Maya
- beyond attributes
-beyond name & forms
Shiva vishnu are both pratpara and so is Ad-Shakti...not lower forms of shaktis
the real Pratpar is Krishna (also known as Brahmm or Paramshiva).... all others are manifestations of HIM
(I dont believe Krishna to be vishnu avtar as popular belief is... vishnu is a smaller manifestation of Krishna, so is brahmaa and Rudra)
Hope i dont get thumbs down on this point from Non-Mayavadis...LOL
Edit : the proper meaning of Pratpar means the one beyond all.. so whosoever you think is beyond everything is Pratapar ..call it Narayan, Krishna or shiva

isvarah parama krsna saccidanda vigraha,
anadi adir govindah sarva karana karanam=
Krsna, who is also known as Govinda is the supreme personality of Godhead. He has a transcendental form of eternal blissful knowledge. He is the origin and cause of all causes. from brahma samhita.
ete camsa kala pumsah krsnas tu bhagavan svayam, indrari vyakulam lokam mrdayanti yuge yuge=
All incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of portions of the Supreme lord sri Krsna, but Krsna is the supreme peronality of Godhead. All incarnations appear whenever there is a disturbance created by the enemies of indra (the asuras) from Bhagavatam
Siva, in conversation with parvati says:
tenaiva hetu bhutale vayam jata mahesvari,
karanam sarva bhutanam sa ekah paramesvarah=
Oh Mahesvari, controller of the world, we have taken birth as instruments to serve the will of the supreme Person. He alone is the Paramesvara, the supreme controller, the master of everyone, and the ultimate cause of all living beings. from Skanda Purana.
Anways, the list goes on...Jai sri Krsna!

Narayana is described with many words like paramapuruShA, parAtparA, paramAtmA etc.
In sanskrit, para means to unbelong. paratpara. measn he unbelongs even to the unbelonging nature.
he is neither sat nor un-sat. that means he is neither good , and also he is not being "not good" too. Because he is above all this goodness or other natures. so he is paratpara.
The belonging and unbelonging itself takes birth form him, so he is the source of these also, and he is only the source of these.
just one of the way to say that he is the real source, supreme. the beautiful hari. hari, is the one who defines what is immortal and mortal. He is the one who gives meaning as of what should immortality look like and what should it not look like. He is parAtParA, truly.
