1100 - 1700 cubic centimetres of brain. That's a lot of brains for humans (gorillas only have 340 - 752 cm^3).

And since we use only about 10 to 15 % of it, I wonder why we have so MUCH?

Of course, there are the basic functions that the brain controlls, e..g. heart rate, breathing, homeostasis, etc. Then there are the conscious things we do, e.g . typing this response to your question. Add to that abstract thought, imagination, dreaming, etc. And we still use only a small fraction.

Actually to control functions in your body towards your own survival....for example breathing, heartbeat etc...

If you are relating to the thinking side well again the function of the brain primarily is again to rely on your senses and learn from them and to activate any actions associated with the senses again to your survival.....For example if you come across rotten food....all your senses will perceived it as rotten...your brain will bring all this information together and forms an action....that is you will not eat the food...or you think you will not eat the food etc.... The primary function

It goes from simple to being complicated as thoughts and actions get to be complicated....that is why it is the human that can only perceived for their own survival and yet have the compassion for others for example animals etc etc.. and yet through all this special ability of our brain some seem to misused it (again primarily for personal gain or survival) leading to devious and other unethical conducts...sad but true.

If the lord giveth AND taketh away. Then how can it be called giving? When you give something can you really take it back? Maybe you created your brain to use?

hehe.. he didnt give us anything because he isnt real. lol.

scientifically, ill tell you why we need brains. our brain is the process center for our bodies. before anything happens, it must go through our brain. for example, while we sleep, the brain monitors breathing, heart rate, etc.

In the case of SOME people, I wonder that as well. I mean, you're obviously not using yours, or you wouldn't ask this question, nor would you ascribe the cause of it to a fictitious sky fairy.
Some questions just make me shake my head, sadly.

Well you see when you don't have a brain, you don't have a central nervous system and without the central nervous system you wouldn't really be alive.
