The Yugoslavs had long experience of european civilization. Wars are ugly, but they do not destroy the underlying culture of society. Most middle eastern peoples were nomadic tribesmen only a few decades ago. They do not have a history of civil society to preserve them against internal strife. They are fighting the battles that Europe fought (and grew out of) in the centuries ago.

It took 10+ years for the former Yugoslavia to fall apart.
Most Americans do not realize that the problems in the former Yugoslavia started before the fall of the Berlin Wall and have not been completely settled yet. A lot of boundaries and status of ethnic groups needs to be settled. The killing has stopped, but NATO is still there and the US/EU/UN are still trying to figure out the final status of places like Kosovo.

Iraq hasn't fallen? They are on the verge of civil war and people are being killed daily on the streets over religious violence. It might be better for them if the country was split into at least three pieces, which will probably happen some day. Until they learn the evil that religion has become, the violence will go on and on.

ex yugoslavia under Tito was an tremendous country...The war began after the Marshals Death but it only began...When bush deams Kosovo Independent that is when the war again refuels... Bosnia,Serbia,Croatia all agian start to fight simply because we hate each other so much..unless you are one of use you have no idea HOW MUCH HATE WE HAVE FOR EACH OTHER!!! Its only a matter of time before we go at it again...the balkan state by the way have enough arms to fight for centuries thanks to TITO who had armed the living **** out of the former YUGOSLAVIA......
