"And no one can pluck them from my hand".

I also believe that if someone is truly born again by God's Spirit, then they cannot lose their salvation.
Sadly, we live in days where some will preach a cheap Gospel. I believe in order for someone to have a real encounter with the Lord, a deep repentance needs to take place, a real sorrow for sin.

In order to become a Christian, a person makes a committment for life, and the Lord in return makes a committment to us. The Bible speaks of us as being sealed with the Holy Spirit at salvation. That seal is strong, not flakey, its permanent and solid.

There was a time in my life when I went away from the Lord, but I know that the Lord did not go away from me.

Maranatha and others spoke very well on this subject.... :)

Ok...my 2 cents worth: I know too many people whom had been mightily touched by the Lord and of the Spirit...used in ways that were a true Blessing.... yet, they walked away because they could not overcome a fleshly addiction...

....and now, they have just added one more misery to try to obliterate with drink or drugs.

They are going through "hell on earth", but it was their choice.

My hope is that even on the last moments before their Spirit leaves them, they will hear our Lord say..."You are forgiven"

I don't want people to lose their salvation, but, there are also too many people whom believe their "religion" will save them and they can do whatever they want and no-one checks them on it. They say they had asked Jesus into their heart, but, they don't seem to have been touched by the Holy Spirit... Yet, these people have quite a bit of persuasion among the unsaved and the new Christians whom don't know any better.

If you were to tell THEM that they are not actually "saved", they will fight tooth and nail to prove you wrong. This group, I believe, will call out to Jesus at the last moments and Jesus will say "I never knew you".

To these, if they have an ear to listen, they would do well to re-think their position of "salvation".

May you find Peace. :)

Yes, we can lose our salvation. Meg gave a great answer, and the only thing I'll add to it is a bit of a logical breakdown.

We have free will. Everyday we wake up we have the free choice to accept God or to reject Him. God gave us that freedom and He always respects it. For example, what if today I love Jesus and go to Mass every Sunday, but a year from now I throw away my Catholic faith and become a Satan worshiper and stay that way the rest of my life? Will I be saved? No. Did my choice to become a Satan worshiper cost me my salvation? Yes.

At one point I was a baptized, Jesus-loving Catholic; later I rejected God and became of follower of Satan. I had the hope of salvation one moment, and the next I threw it all away.

So to answer your question, yes, salvation can be lost if we’re not careful.

God bless and take care.

My friend PaulCyp wrote this wonderful answer yesterday (I hope he doesn't mind me posting it for you):

--------------------
The Bible answers this question very directly. "He who endures to the end, he WILL be saved". Matt 24:13; Mark 13:13. Obviously then, he who does not endure to the end will NOT be saved. You cannot lose your salvation, once you receive it. But you don't receive it until you walk through the pearly gates. Note the future tense in these passages - "WILL be saved". What is confusing you is the unbiblical manmade Protestant tradition that you can actually be permanently saved while you are still on earth. This is plainly false. Earth is the roadway to heaven, or to hell. It isn't the place of salvation. Satan is trying to win our souls until we take our final breath. He can't of course, if we remain close to the Lord. But some do not. The Bible tells us that we cannot be snatched away; but that doesn't mean we cannot freely walk away. And some Christians do. When that happens, Protestants say, "well, he wasn't really saved". RIGHT! And neither is anyone else as long as we are in the flesh!

A God That is Big enough To SAVE YOU, Is certainly Big enough to KEEP You Saved! (Providing You are truly saved) You can know that by the way you feel about Sin, anymore. When Jesus Saved You, He gave You a "new want- to", and "Brand New Desires." And He will be working on you for as long as it takes to Make you a New Creature. He Says : " I will Never Leave YOU>".....IF You Doubt Your Salvation, ASK HIM AGAIN! He is always there to hear you and Save You.

If you are really, truly saved, No, you cannot.

Now some would say, What does that mean? We all know people who are Christians in name only. They profess Christ but there is no real evidence of Christ working in their lives; they have borne no 'fruit' as Paul says. This does not mean that they are not saved necessarily; sometimes a Christian will plateau for 20 or more years before you see a discernible working of God in their lives. These are the Christians that you pray for the most, and these are the people that I would TEND to say were never really saved in the first place.
I'm not judging anyone's heart; I'm merely drawing a distinction for purposes of answering your question.

However, if you are saved, living your life for Christ, there is evidence of Christ in your life, you are bearing fruit as a Christian and you screw up really, really, bad, you are still saved, and God will convict your heart so much for your sin, and you will not feel peace in your heart until you repent. This is further evidence of your salvation.

The great thing about Jesus is He tells us to believe. He doesn't tell us to be perfect, He doesn't tell us to try really hard and He'll think about it, He just tells us to believe.

Yes, but the variety of answers you've received shows that most of us Christians aren't sure what our salvation consists of; only God does.

That's OK, as long as you're humble about it and don't pretend you have the "magic key" (the right formula) to salvation.

God always surprises me; does He not you?

No..the TRULY saved person cannot "loose" their Salvation...
Hebrews 6:4 It is IMPOSSIBLE for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6 if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
and...
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
But to TRULY know the Lord & have Salvation is a VERY tough road,..one we must FIGHT to stay on...
For only GOD sees our "true" hearts...something that even we ourselves cannot know or see.
So we battle on...that we may reach that precious prize of seeing our Savior...face to face, and casting our crowns at His beloved feet!

Yes, it is called backsliding.

Jesus will never leave us but yes we can chose to leave him. We can be turned away if we give our ears to seduceing spirits.

What gets me is some of these church people will go through the "sinners prayer" with someone and say welcome aboard brother. Only when that person backslides they say they were never saved to begin with.

YOU CAN NOT FALL AWAY FROM ANYTHING IF YOU ARE NOT THERE TO BEGIN WITH. Those who "fall away" were at one time close to the Lord, saved.

We all MUST ENDURE TILL THE END.

You can have your name blotted out of the book of life. God does not write it in there if you are not saved.

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jud 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jud 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.
Jud 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
