It depends on the kind of dinner.
But in most circumstances this is totally unacceptable.
First, she showed openly that she didn't like the pie, by adding something else on it. It's rude to the person who made it/served it.
Second, you don't take something that is not yours without asking, even if it's just a piece of fruit
Third, leaving a half eaten banana is gross.
A pity my mom wasn't there....she'd probably known where to stick that banana!

Whenever there is candy or fruit in a bowl on a table at the Host's home it is meant for the guests enjoyment. Guests are free to help themselves to these things.
What was rude was the fact that the guest was served a dessert by the hostess. To alter the dessert in any way was an insult to the Hostess.
Also, it is never correct to eat half of a fruit from the fruit bowl and leave the rest on the table.

If the bananas were on the table at the time dessert was served , then id say they were intended to be eaten, perhaps as an alternative to a rich dessert.and so she did not commit a faux paux by taking one without asking, however she should have used the whole banana, in essence she wasted 1/2 a banana which was rude and in poor taste.
now if the fruit was not on the table where dessert was served and she grabbed one off the sideboard or from the kitchen that would have been completely improper.

As you described it it doesn't sound all that bad unless he or she threw the rest of the banana peel and all on the floor or something.
It might have been in poor taste to have even asked for the banana to begin with, implying that the pie was somehow lacking to begin with.

The polite thing to do would have been to ask if she could have a banana if they weren't sitting out on the table and available to everyone. Then she should have eaten the whole banana without wasting half of it.

i think of that if the pals have this association formerly and anybody knows, there's no subject with it. the 1st answerer suggested that some human beings think of that the guy who invited could pay. I in many circumstances trust that concept too. yet in this occasion i'm undecided if the birthday person could be seen the inviter, via fact it incredibly is extra of an understanding between your pals which you will bypass out. And it is likewise supported with the help of the actuality that the birthday person does not pay for him/herself. In a manner, it incredibly is like the pals are the inviters and the birthday person is the invitee. additionally, it form of feels like the pals are doing the birthday person a want with the help of identifying to purchase themselves incredibly of watching for the birthday person to pay for it. certainly your grandma ought to work out the practicality in that.
