Since these V-6 motors have chain driven camshafts the dependability is amazing.
I would however caution you about a rather ugly head that's surfaced lately with all Toyota's. Since 05 there has been a rash of major automatic transmission problems. Under your Yahoo site go to automobiles,Toyota's in particular. At that site you have the opportunity to read owners comments. People are literally screaming mad. Since Toyota has added a 5th. and 6th. gear to their automatic transmissions it seems they have created a "week sister".
I recently tried out a new 07 Camry with the V6 engine. The transmission didn't feel right to me. While accelerating off an on ramp on a four lane highway the transmission didn't downshift. The motor felt week as heck. At 55 mph. I flogged it and it did downshift and zipped a couple of slow cars in a 65 mile speedzone.

This motor (the 5VZ-FE) is a very good engine. It does use a timing belt, but it is fairly easy to change, and it is a non-interference engine, so it will not damage the internals, if the belt breaks. It's of the same engine family as the 3VZ-E motors in the older 4Runners, which had headgasket problems (fixed in the recall), but were otherwise very solid motors. The headgasket design is much better in the 5VZ. They don't seem to have any common problem areas.

dude the best engine for a toyota 4 runner is the 22-re those engines are die hard 300,000 mile engines plus you can put hks cams and springs to give them some extra balls cuz they need balls thats the downfall to 22-re motors
