My boyfriend broke out the windows in my car. I know he did it but the cops say that since no one saw him do it then they cant do anything. He even sent me texts saying that he did but they are saying that is not admissable.(sp) I can't get a protective order until monday. I am scared. I don't think he will hurt me and this is the first time he has done something like this before.

If you live in one of the 30+ states that are "shall issue" for concealed carry weapons permits and you are over the age of 21, then get yourself a carry permit. You will likely need to take a safety course which will cost between $50 and $150 depending on your state's requirements, get fingerprinted, and purchase a gun of course. I would recommend a Smith and Wesson "Ladysmith" or Model 637 "Bodyguard" revolver in .38 special, or a Kahr Arms CW 9 semi-auto in 9mm. The revolver will be between $300 and $600 depending on whether it is used or new, and which model you get, and the Kahr should be a little less than $400.

Once you get your permit, carry everywhere, including your own home. Refuse to be a victim.

The cops told you they can't do anything. You have to ask yourself what can you do to protect yourself when law enforcement has their hands tied.

First, if he admitted breaking your windows online, did he threaten to do it before? or has he threatened you online in any way? or threatened you over the phone?

Find ways to get physical proof, like voice messages or pictures of him in the act, or record your phone conversations if he is threatening you. Take precautions now and start taping if you can. You have to get proactive.

You can bet that Nicole Brown Simpson thought the same things you did...that O.J. would never kill her, even though he beat her...she still thought that it would never go that far. Every woman that has been hit or beaten thought that "he would never do that" until he did.

There have been a lot of stories lately in the news about women being killed by the men they once loved...they never wanted to believe that "he" could be capable of doing those things to them. Believe it. It happens. Take care of yourself. Go to a friends house, parents house, the local women's shelter. Everyone just thinks about the police, but often the only time police can get involved is AFTER the incident...they cannot prevent it, and that is what you need to do.

Protect yourself however you need to. Good luck.

Don't delete the text messages! Get a copy of the report you filed with the police. Make several copies. Go to the Sheriff's office with the text message and the report. If this fails got to the D.A. If they still do nothing go to the media.

You say that you don't think he will hurt you. Therein lies the police's problem. Even if state law allows them to aska judge for a temporary restraining order, they would have a hard time justifying it to the judge on duty.

In fact, you may have a hard time convincing the judge/magistrate on Monday, unless something happens between now and then to escalate it.

" I don't think he will hurt me and ...''

get your butt to a hotel far away from your usual locations till
you get the P.O.- even that's no major help except as a
''paper trail'' to prove your story.
Sadly, you need more help than most police will provide: they're GREAT at investigating crime scenes but lousy at prevention.

No, cop's won't do anything unless he actually kills you. Doesn't that make you feel good? Cop's are good for .....nothing I can think of.
