The purpose of basic training is threefold...

(1) To get you to start thinking like a team member rather than a solitary individual. You eat. sleep, wake up, march, drill, do PT, attend class, and study as a group.

(2) To teach you the rules and regulations, along with some of the practical knowledge that will allow you to function as a member of the particular branch of the service.

(3) To find out how you might best serve the service.

To that end, they take away your individuality. Your hair is cut, your clothes are replaced with a uniform. You are no longer Bill Jones. You are RECRUIT JONES, SIR!

Nothing that happens in recruit training is personally aimed at you. One day you might have some DI in your face shouting at you. The next day, it'll be somebody else... unless you're kind of a screw-up. Then he'll rip yu apart constantly with the idea that one day a buddy will be trusting you with or her life and he wants you prepared.

But my guess is that it will be only a taste. It was for me in the Navy. While you're there, you might think it's the worst thing that could possibly happen to a human being. But it's not.

It certainly isn't "easy".

But it isn't so hard as to fail so many that it ceases to function.

It is a test to be passed, study and prepare yourself physically and mentally to succeed.

It isn't a vacation by any means, but is more mental than physical.

In the end it is a game- the idea is not to freak out and buckle under extreme mental pressure provided from your MTI.

Good Luck

They're all hard. AF is mentally more challenging. You work out every day, but you won't be doing any 12 mile footmarches with a ruck on. Most is 2 miles.

Any basic training is going to challenge you and your ability. It's as hard as you make it.

Don't sweat it, it's hard, but not too hard that you can't do it.
The only people I saw fail basic were; quitters and crybabies, I did it and when I went in I was in less than great shape and I made it through.
Just keep your head up high, at least you didn't join the army
