Did it feel good? How did you do it? How do you feel now?

It always feels good when you stand up for yourself--even if you don't say anything nasty on the way out, the fact you are supporting your own mental health by leaving a crappy job is very empowering. The prospect of flipping burgers for a few weeks in the meantime isn't as bad as the thought of staying at the job--that's when you know it's time to leave. I have rarely regretted leaving a job and I always seem to end up with something better. Don't settle for less in your life and find ways to make it happen. Too many people just stay in a rut and never explore their options.

Many years ago I had a really miserable job - it was known as a really bad place to work, and had huge turnover, but I was new in town. A few years later I had lined up another job. I got the offer the morning when my review was scheduled. The review went fine, but at the end when my boss (a fairly decent guy) asked the usual "what can the company do to make things better" I listed a large number of items. I wasn't nasty about it, but he was still a little surprised, since normally nobody said anything to that. The next day I turned in my notice. My boss said he had wondered the day before what was up.

And yes, it felt good - and I'd do the exact same thing again. Maybe it helped out the people who were still there. The company isn't there any more, by the way.

Generally I had been a follow the book gal. I hate to break rules. I had been fed up with my boss for awhile and she wrote me up for something I didn't do - she heard someone "tell" on me because "they" didn't cover them self - I even had people witness me - but she ticked me off so much I walked out.
It felt great and she tried to hold my last check which I fought for (And she was made to look like a fool) -

It was the best thing I ever did it was the push I needed to work for myself - before I had been avoiding being my own boss.. turns out its the best choice ever.

I just notified my boss , then I walked out and went on temporary stress related disability. I never went back and drew the full amount of the disability payments.
