Open the cheese packet to find out. The noodles will last practically forever, but the cheese packet will go bad over time. I recently made a box that expired in Sept. 06 (didn't realize it when I started) and when I opened the cheese packet it was a deep yellow brown color (it's disgusting, but personally the color reminded me of the urine of someone who is seriously dehydrated - that was enough for me to throw it out). That's bad; the packet should be the yellow orange color that you'd recognize. I've even had ramen noodles where the packet has gone bad.
But... if you have cheese you could always melt it over the noodles. Maybe that'd fix the craving.

It's a good thing you prefer the homemade. I don't care for it either, but the grand kids seem to love it. I made some homemade for them and the 6 year old stuck his nose up to it and said he only eats the orange stuff. I have seen the generic boxes 2 for a dollar, the Kraft is about a dollar a box. When my kids were young it was 4 for a dollar for the Kraft.

The pasta part is probably good for years, it would be the cheese sauce that has the limited shelf life, it may be still safe to eat but might be a bit gritty in consistency, I've had KD a few months off the cheese isn't as tangy and cheesy. If you put Ketchup on though you probably won't notice much difference. BBQ sauce is also good.

i was told that those expiration dates are just really 'best by' dates. the company wont refund or guarantee anything that's past the best by date. the flavors may not be optimum. even milk will be gross and undrinkable before it's actually dangerous.
however, stay away from expired cough medicines and cooking oils, especially infused oils. they can turn rancid. i took and expired tylenol once and freaked out. poison control said the only problem is that the acetaminophen in it may not fix my headache. liquid meds though......you could die.
the mac and cheese is fine. check for little bugs. i've seen them in old pasta

If it's the powdered sauce mix, then the expiration date just means it might be a bit stale but not much of a health risk. If it's the creamy packet, even with all the preservatives, I wouldn't risk it.

4 months is nothing when it comes to shelf-stable foods. Make it and eat up!

please, that stuff takes forever to go bad. if it's been a couple of years, then i'd say no, throw it out...but it's still perfectly safe to eat...go ahead, knock yourself out.
