How come a picture reflection with my mirror is better then a direct shot?

Everything looks distorted with my direct shot........like a fish bulb kind of look.

What are you photographing where you have a choice. It sounds like a wide angle closeup lens is being used for the straight shot and the longer focus of the mirror shot results in a regular lens ratio being used.

Maybe you are too close to the subject when direct shooting. Try 6' away and then crop away some of the background using your computer. I am pretty sure that will have the same effect as using the mirror. Good luck
