GURU PURNIMA-
Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus.
What is Guru Purnima?
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.
Significance of Guru Purnima
On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'.
This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual 'sadhana' from this day.
The period 'Chaturmas' ("four months") begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions. -

Guru means Heavy signifying depth, one who knows, one who can guide you to that knowledge and make you equal to himself. Since long time ago, sages and gurus earmarked on e particular purnima of the year when the disciple and the guru would meet each other. If not possible they would at least remember each other. On this day the Guru opens his heart and the doors of his secret treasure for his disciples. Spiritually it is a most important day and disciples should strive to reach in person before the Guru. You know there is a saying in guru-shishya relationship --- Guru kripa hi kevalam -- it means that the only important factor for a disciple is the kripa or blessings of his/her guru. Guru Purnima is one day when the disciple is showered with blessings by the Guru.

sri Vyaasa Bhagavan is considered as the savior of Hindu religion-because during his time the Vedams were scattered all over Bharatha Kandm (Sub continent consisting of the Modern India,Pakistan,Bangala Desh,Bhutan and Afganistan(Khaandar)}He collected all of them, divided them into 3 Vedhams(Vedha Trayee Rk,Yajus,Saaman-Atharva was added later) and codified them. All the 3 main Acharyas sarva Sri.Sankara,Ramanuja, and Madwa and all their follower- ascetics do Guru Pooja on that day. He is considered as the incarnaion Of sri Vishnu:-
"Vyaasaaya Vishnurupaaya- Vyaasa rupaaya visshnavay
Namovai Brahma Nidhaye Vaasishtaaya(grandson of sri.Vasishta) Namo Namaha"
sri.Vyaasa in later life becomes a Parivraajaka (Ascetic) So his Mukthi day (not birth day) is celebrated as "Vyaasa Poornima" or "Guru Poornima"-Aaradhana(is done only for ascetics) is done by all Ascetics (Sanyasis) and Grahasthas (Family people) for the savior of Vedhic Dharmam(so called Hinduism). It is performed on Aashaada poornima(this year on July 29 2007-Sunday)

The grace of the guru is like an ocean. If one comes with a cup he will basically get a cupful. it is little need complaining of the niggardliness of the sea. The biffee the vessel the extra one would be waiting to hold. it is completely as much as him. The extra you grow to be surrendered to the guru, the extra you sense which you have completely happy freedom you by no skill had previously.. Thats all because of the fact of guru.. So in gratitude gurupurnima is nicely known ....who enlighten our paths..
