Germ theory? If I feel dirty I wash, that simple :)

Germs have stopped being "just a theory" in 1676 when they were first observed by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. That's when the "theory" was validated, and since then they're a scientific fact. Scientific theories, even the unvalidated ones, have a practical value, of being able to predict certain behaviors. The "theory of gravity" (and I assume you mean the Newtonian, not the standard model), does not explain WHY gravity exists, but it is accurate enough to calculate how much time it would to reach the ground, had someone accidentally pushed you off from a tower, while being tied to a large brick. A scientific theory is expected to have practical applications - A famous quote by George E. P. Box is "All models are wrong, some are useful".

I really try to keep my mind open. The only thing I am really sure of is that God is God. (For more reasons than anyone has asked here). The rest is just really interesting. Evolution could have been started by God. Germs were made by God. Anyone trying to figure out God's works is great. Even if that's not what they think they are doing.

Blessed Be

It is vital to know that a scientific theory is not an unproven hypothesis. Such theories have been tested for years and there is much evidence to support them. Genesis Creation is just a myth and not even a hypothesis, for there is no evidence at all for it.

Germs we can see and observe. Evolution we have never seen. We've seen adaptation, even Darwin saw that on Galapagos, but not actual evolution.

Many things in science are termed theories, but they all have some fact contained therein so no it's not just a theory to me.

I wasn't going to answer this until I saw "!!!'s" answer. We have seen evolution - he or she is wrong. Study DNA and evolution is self-evident and anybody who tells you otherwise either just doesn't get it or doesn't want to - you don't want to try and change their minds by confusing them with the facts.

I think that most people who think it is "just a theory" think that the word "theory" means "wild guess"...
