the heart is deep inside the body and reflects are feelings and emotions. When you fall in love it beats faster, it aches when your hurt. When you afraid really afraid, it causes a lump in your chest where you can't swallow. I think it is the seat of all emotions. Our brain is like a computer it processes information. Tells us how to act.
Our heart motivates us to do stuff. That sometimes our brain says "that is not a good idea"
My wife always laughs about a sign at Weight Watchers about counting calories. "Your stomach doesn't have a brain let it use yours."

Many times it means as contrasted with coming from the head. It means responding to the emotions involved, rather than using reason and intellectual analysis of the situation.

My own recommendation is that you use your head to think with and your heart (metaphorically) to feel with. You may FEEL attraction to a particular person, for example, but what do you THINK about the person's character, judgment, intelligence, behavior?

The heart or our figurative heart is the seat of our motivation and it needs training according to our creator.
(Proverbs 4:23) 23 More than all else that is to be guarded, safeguard your heart, for out of it are the sources of life.
For this very reason man denies his creator, for his untrained heart directs his steps.
(Psalm 10:11) . . .He has said in his heart: “God has forgotten. He has concealed his face. He will certainly never see [it].”
The well trained heart considers all things.
(1 Peter 3:4) . . .but let it be the secret person of the heart in the incorruptible [apparel] of the quiet and mild spirit, which is of great value in the eyes of God. . .

(Proverbs 2:10-11) . . .When wisdom enters into your heart and knowledge itself becomes pleasant to your very soul, 11 thinking ability itself will keep guard over you, discernment itself will safeguard you,

Its not far from the Lungs and is highly oxygenated.

Some people would argue altruistic acts or those of kindness done out of passion are from the heart.

Some class it as an unfounded feeling, or feeling they can not rationally explain.

Deep emotion for doing a good deed. It's that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you know you did something kind for someone else without thinking about what you would get out of it.
