"To those who have been given alot, more will be given, " said Jesus. If a person is religious then that person should know what sin is and that it is bad. Now we all fall through inclinations and just being fallen humans. But a religious has more responsibility. The more you know the more you are responsible for.
There is also more scandel given when others see a religious person falling into sin. What if I were a priest and came out of bar? What would people seeing me leave the bar, say? Now maybe I had a good reason for being there. But it can still give scandel. Sin gives scandal.
The degree of sin is also based on other factors like invincible ignorance, partial knowledge, and full consent. But religious people ought to know these things. Therefore there is a great responsibility.

Sin is bad and unacceptable, no matter what. But if one is religious - that is to say - if one knows better and does it anyway, that is worse. James 4:17 says if you know how to do what is right, and yet you do not do it, that is a sin for you.
If one does not believe in sin, that does not deliver one from the responsibility or the consequences. If that were true, I could say I don't believe in speed limits. Now does that mean I won't be stopped by the authorities and get a ticket? Just because I don't believe in such a thing as speed limits does not mean that the authorities of the land won't hold me accountable.
To sin unknowingly is still sin. But to know better and to do it anyway makes one culpable to a greater degree.

A sin is a sin whether you are religious or not. But the religious ones were taught different then the ones that aren't religious. But then again, we all know right from wrong!

If you are not religious, the term "sin" holds no meaning. If you mean is it worse to do the particular thing which your religion calls a sin (let's use masturbation as an example) when you don't know or care that there exists a religion which condemns the practice; no, it's not worse. It's decidedly better.
It is my belief that useless guilt trips about normal behavior have torn more people away from Christianity than any other factor.

I doubt if being not religious is a good excuse for sinning because man is supposed to be rational. From childhood, a person knows what is right and what is not and religion has nothing to do with his will to commit a sin or not. Remember this: Ignorance of the law excuses no one.

Sin is sin- however I will say this- if we have "tasted" of the goodness of God, and have salvation through the Cross of Christ- we are dead to sin- and we have been clothed with His righteousness. However, that does not mean that we cannot sin. We have a choice- and when we do, we have an advocate before the Father, when we come to repent and confess. As a Christian we should desire to live a life that pleases Him. When we do sin, we do not lose our salvation, but we do lose the closeness that we had with God- praise God we are forgiven, when we confess. If we know something is against God and do that sin, God is disappointed in us, however, He never stops loving us.

Sin is something we all inherited from Adam & Eve. We have the desire & tendency to lean toward it. Sinning, that is to do something that is displeasing to God, happens all the time. It may be a negative thought or selfish action. It may be a "white" lie or cheating on taxes.
It is the PRACTICING of sin that is "worse".
When you know it is wrong according to the scriptures and you consciously decide to to it anyway, it is a choice to rebell against God. To say to him that you think you know better. Or that you think he doesn't see you and know what's in your heart.
We all screw up. Alot. But heartfelt prayer, that you do want to please him, and you're truly sorry is what he wants from you. Ask for God's help if it is a situation that keeps happening to you. He will help you.
If you don't believe in Jehovah God, or you just don't care about him then it really doesn't matter, sinning is a religious concept.
If you feel you don't know what God requires of you, ask for help. Pray to him to send you help.
I was in your shoes about 10 years ago. I had attended a few different churches but never felt like I understood the Bible, or what it meant to have a "relationship" with God.
I even had an aquaintance, who thought they were helping, scare me by saying "there will be some who no matter how much they want to know God, never will." That pretty much summed up how I felt at church. Like I was looking in from the outside and just not quite getting it...
Then I started praying, praying alot, asking God to help me. It wasn't but a short time and a JW approached me. I literally told him that I didn't know why I'd rejected "them" for so long but that I was curious and had lots of questions.
He came to our home, spent his time and effort and never once asked for money. This was one of the things that turned me off with the churches, they kept passing the plate and saying "dig deeper".
He came to our home for over a year, every monday night. I am proud to say that I now know Jehovah, I personally love serving him and my Bible is a great comfort, not a mystery.
Pray for help. Or call your local Kingdom Hall.

Sin is sin...Whether you murder an innocent person or steal a candy bar, both are sin and God doesn't distinguish one from another, to Him sin is sin...And it's all punishable by death...
Whether we are 'religious' or not, we all know the difference between right and wrong. We know that when we steal it isn't okay because it's just a paper clip. The fact is, it wasn't ours and we helped ourselves to it...When we steal from a person we not only steal from that person but we also steal from God...
M't:25:40: And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
So, when you sin an any form you have sinned against God and in fact that is what sin is. Doing what God has commanded you not to do...

sin is sin. i think it would be worse to sin if you were claiming to be religious, because if u are claiming one thing and doing differently then you could add being a hypocrite to your sins. god likes no sin. like if u aren't religious and u claim nothing, then it seems u really wouldn't care if u sinned or not.
