Goodness (as well as bad) comes from within us. So why this thought? Are you scared that you don't have the strength to be a kind and loving person on your own?

Please do not take this the wrong way, It is just a question to help me understand a bit better.

I don't feel as if I need God in my life in order to be a good person. He helps me to be better because of His reminder to treat other people as I would like to be treated. I need Him in order to be a BETTER person.
Yes, he does give me strength that I would not have if it weren't for Him.

I probably could NOT love certain people if it were not for His help. He helps me refrain from replying to certain people here and telling them what I really think.

He helps me to love and to be kind to people who are unloveable and who treat me unkindly. He helps me to empathize with others.

I hope this helps.

Maybe it makes me weak in some people's eyes because I need God. They have the right to see me as weak. I see myself as being strong because of the strength HE gives to me.

First, there are none that are 'good'. Everybody sins, me included. Some just cover it up better. From school days until now, some of the 'best' have turned out the worst. The path to God is having your sins forgiven. That includes past, present and future. Sins are disobeying God and have nothing to do with any politically correct notion in our society today. For example Jesus overturned money tables and generally disrupted business in the temple. He would probably be arrested today, but He never sinned. Good today is looked at as going along with society, but many times this is contrary with the laws of God. Accepting Jesus and asking for guidance helps direct me in the correct paths and has changed my attitude to try to be acceptable to God. Hope this answers your question, if it was asked sincerely.

Speaking for myself:

The purpose of having God in my life is not because I'm good or bad. I's because I need salvation because I am born a sinner. Yes, goodness or badness comes from within. God already knows who you are from the inside out. So you can't fool him whether you try to be good or bad.

Having God in my life does not make me a good person because I am sinful by nature. Having God in my life gives me peace and hope that I can go on day by day and trust in him to order my steps in life. Also to trust in him to lead me towards the path of his righteousness when the devil tries to steer me wrong.

God Bless.

"Good" is a very relative term- when we look at other people we can always find someone that is not as "good" as we are. However, when we look to God, in His infinite holiness, none is good, no matter how loving a person tries to be, it falls short. In Romans 3 it says- "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", and also "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Our righteousness is like dirty rags to Him, that is why we need the blood of Jesus to cleanse us. He clothes us in His righteousness. I am including myself here,- I was known as the "good" girl growing up, but when I met Jesus, I know I was not good, no matter what others said.- I am not pointing any fingers at non-believers- I am a sinner, saved by the grace of Almighty God.

I am a Christian. For me personally I believe that most people ARE good people. My mom's whole side of the family are very good people, but none of them believe in Christ. Having Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior isn't about using Him to be "good," it's about knowing that I am going to be with Him when my life on earth ends. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and sin can't enter heaven. Hope this helps!

People think that godlessness is good and that godliness is not profitable. But if one would ponder the fact that their lives are meaningless and empty if lived just for the here and now, then they will realize that God alone and His ways are truly the only valuable / good thing of life. Besides, even Jesus Himself quoted, " Why do you call me good? There is only one good and that is my Father in heaven." Enough said when Jesus speaks.

God gives us a set of rules (commandments) to live by. He does this to show us what is going to give us the most peace and joy in this life and the next. Having God in my life helps me to remember what is really important. Brings me peace in His presence. Grants me wisdom when the world has nothing to offer. Keeps me focused, and most importantly, takes away my fear. The more we know, understand, and accept God into our everyday lives, the less we have to fear.

Well, what is your definition of good, because I can bet it doens't line up with God's definition of good. Jesus died on the cross so we can be forgiven of our sins because we all have missed the mark on being good people. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."Rom 3:23. But we have redemption and atonement with God through Jesus' blood shed for us.
