Took part in a major robbery which involved the death of an engine driver, caused untold delay and inconvenience to everybody wanting to use that part of the railway - both main line and local - whilst investigations took place, then, after being caught and imprisoned, escaped from jail and lived on the proceeds of his crime for thirty years whilst laughing at us all before coming back to England so that he could get free treatment for his deteriorating health - and YOU ASK WHY he's still in prison. Sorry, I don't know......

If Ronnie Biggs had served his sentence the first time around instead of escaping what was due to him he would now be a free man living the rest of his life in the way in which he chose. However he is paying the price. If we freed people like this we would be sending the message that if you can escape from jail and stay hidden for years and years its ok- we will forget what you have done society would be much worse than it is.

He was involved in a major robbery - someone died - he didn't serve the sentence he was given...shall I go on?
By the way...had Ronnie Biggs been a child molester who had escaped justice and was captured and now an ill old man in jail....would those who think he should be free for the crimes he DID commit wish him free in THAT instance???

no i can not! i think of they're in basic terms making use of him as a scapegoat. he isn't any possibility to society. he's an elderly guy in unwell well being and can be released now. in actuality he could have been released a while in the past. the killers of Jamie Bulger are released and residing in society below aliases. paedophiles are released after 2-3 yrs and placed returned into society, as are rapists. those form of 'human beings' go away a life-time of discomfort and suffering at the back of them for the sufferers. i understand a guy who robbed a shop and became given 12yrs in penitentiary, on the comparable highway that he lived a pair murdered a 2yr previous newborn and the guy have been given 5yrs and the female 2yrs. the regulation in this country is ridiculous. Ronnie Biggs has greater effective than paid for his crime. i understand that stealing is incorrect yet actual ruining someones existence consistently and them being no longer able to miss what occurred to them is greater significant than money.

Because he stole some money, if he had murdered some one then he would have been out of prison within a couple of years, money is much more important to the crooks who run this country than life, just look at the sentences passed on murderers compared with someone who steals a few hundred pounds, money rules this country.

Because he never served his sentence, he escaped and lived the life of Riley in Brazil, even having a child so that he technically could not be extradited.
He is now serving the rest of the sentence that was imposed at the time - had he not escaped he'd have been free a good while!

Let's See
He is a criminal and he escaped prison, stayed on the run for what 30 years? Had he just served his time he would have been out.
At least he's in the nursing home part of the prison and getting good care. FREE!

He is serving the jail sentence he was given for taking part in the 1960` `Great Train Robbery`. He may have cancer and he is certainly a lovable rogue, but still a criminal.

Because though lots of people may not know or remember, the Great Train Robbery resulted in lifelong illness for Jack Mills who was the train driver.
Biggs was never a hero. If he did the crime he should have been man enough to do the time first time around.

Because he's a violent criminal who evaded justice for decades. He's got what he deserved. If he was naive enough to think he could come back here in a blaze of glory, and expect the bosses to say "Don't worry old chap, it's all in the past, here's a council house and a pension" then he deserves to be in prison, because he is too stupid to survive in the outside world.
