There are actually real incarnation of vishnu only. Shiva only have ansha-avataras....but this is not really an avtar as shiva himself never takes birth.
Vishnu is the preserver of the universe, and to set the things right he has to incarnate as different species,... to upright dharma.... hence all the avtaars are of vishnu only
Shiva is the destroyer...and he has no interest in operation of the universe.... he sits in meditative posture and only wakes up when he has to destroy. That is also the reason he gives any boon to anyone...because he knows finally he will destroy everything.

Bagwan Hanuman = Rudra avatar of lord Shiva
Lord Ram and Lord Krisha = Lord Vishnu
Therefore both the God's incarnations are popular among Hindus. But educated Hindus must know that both Shiva and Vishnu are the same aspects of "Para Brahman" - the divine power

Both are same and their is no way to differenciate. the avtaaras of both are equally famous because whenever Hari take avtar Har follow him. When Rama came Hanumaan also, when Krishna came again Hanumaan was their, When Datatreya came Durvasa followed him. So their is no point to differentiate.

In this material world most people worship the demi gods who are not God, but the supreintendants of the material creation and servants of God. Many Hindus and others take them to be God, because demi gods have so much power, but they get their power from the Supreme God Krishna to serve Him and maintain this world, though He could do it effortlessly Himself, they want the service so He gives it to them. Genesha is one of them who is very popular, because people want wealth and get rid of obsticlse and so many things. They don't understand that His actual posititon is to get rid of the obsitcles on the spiritual path( and clear ones path of all false religions or false teachings. Next would be His Father Lord Shiva The Destroyer of Ctreation. He is not the Suprme God nor a Jiva Soul like us, But in a seperit catigory all by Himself. People are attracted to him because he is easily pleased and awards all kinds of benedictions just to get rid of them so he can get on with his Meditation on Krisnna. Shakti is also very popular Because she is the goddess of Illusion. Everyone is actually under her clutches in this world and those who want Krishna have to run from her and take shelter of Him so she will lift her spell of Illuison off of them. Though Krishna is the Supreme of all and the most Popular in all universes only the truly spiritual are interested in Him. Krishna says in Gita "Those who worship the demi gods are less intelligent and in reality they only worship Me, but they do so in a wrong way." Read Bhagavad Gita As it is BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- asitis.com on line. Tells all.
