Cipro can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Cipro should not be taken with dairy products (such as milk or yogurt) or calcium-fortified juices alone; ... Cipro may be taken with a meal that contains these products. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication to prevent crystals from forming in your urine.

• Avoid caffeine while you are taking Cipro, because the medication can make the effects of caffeine stronger.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, sunlamps, or tanning beds. Cipro make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and a sunburn may result. Wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen if you must be out in the sun. Call your doctor if you have severe burning, redness, itching, rash, or swelling after being in the sun.
• Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to.
• Cipro can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Cipro is not appropriate for all patients, and a thorough medical evaluation can help alleviate the potential for additional health effects. Patients with a medical history which includes epilepsy or other seizure disorder, joint pain or joint problems, and kidney disease may not be able to take Cipro or may require additional testing and monitoring while taking the medication, depending on the condition and the severity of the condition.

If you want ANY medicine to work effectively and efficiently, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL. Alcohol does two things that are detrimental to the effectivity of ANY MEDICINE. These two things are, they reduce the amount of water absorption and oxygen absorption by your cells. THEREFORE alcohol will also slow the absorption of the antibiotic, and also DEFINITELY affect the antibiotic. An antibiotic is produced from a culture, it is a living thing that kills another living thing, and if you introduce alcohol to its environment you are interfering in its ability to work properly. Pathogens that cause infection are anearobic cells, meaning they only have one atom of oxygen per molecule, antibiotic molecules use a lot more oxygen in their composite structure, so by introducing alcohol to the equation, you are allowing the pathogen to grow, and limiting the ability of the antibiotic by limiting its oxygen supply.

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is the quinolone antibiotic most commonly prescribed. Quinolones are usually given over a 3-day period. Pregnant women should not take these drugs. The antibiotics in this class act by preventing bacteria from transcribing their genes. That is, it prevents the bacteria from creating proteins and other molecules correctly that are essential for the survival and reproduction of the bacteria.

When you take antibiotics you really foul up your intestinal flora. You may have temporarily gotten rid of your urinary tract infection, but chances are you have introduced a whole host of new problems. Maybe the most relevant to your UTI is that diarrhea is one of the most common side effects of antibiotics. Why? Because the antibiotics have killed all the good bacteria that live in your stomach and aid in digestion along with the E. Coli you were trying to get rid of. What happens when you have diarrhea? You increase the presence of fecal matter and E. Coli!

Cipro can sometimes cause inflammation of the intestines/colon. I would mention this new pain to your doctor. If your UTI hasn't cleared, you may want to switch to a different antibiotic. Personally, I do not believe in doctors prescribing Quinolones (the class of drug that Cipro is in) for simple UTIs. Quinolones can cause many adverse side effects and have sometimes been fatal. There are safer antibiotics out there that will do the trick. Look up "quinolone side effects" on your search engine. Some are quite scary.

drinking definately reduces the effectiveness mainly because of the yeast in the beer try to refrain just until you finish the antibiotics I know it bites but its better than having to start the antibiotic cycle all over again, once you get down to your last 4 or 5 pills having a beer or 2 shouldnt hurt but try not to, good luck and take care!

Alcohol stops antibiotics from working. Do not drink when you are taking them.

You know what happens when you press control+alt+delete right? Playing around with your body chemistry does the same thing to your system. Alchohol is going to kill off some of that cipro fighting that infection you have.

Take the weekend off the sauce. There will be plenty of beer there next week. If you feel you "have" to have a beer you might have a bigger problem than what that cipro is trying to fight.
