Use "dynamat" it is sort of like insulation and it comes in sheets. It is primarily used with the installation of large sound systems because it stops all the rattling produced by large subwoofers. This sound proof mat is also good for stoping road noise, or in your case possibly sound proofing your car. I am sure you can find an online retailer for dynamat, but if not go to a local audio store. I am not 100% sure but my guess is that you glue the stuff in under all your interior panels. Good luck

the materials that you use, depends on where you use them, try using poly iso-cyanic foam any where theres no access to heat sources, when its cured, its sound proof and light weight, and the best part is that it can be sprayed into cavities with out dissasembling the entire car. where theres heat involved, you`ll need something that has a shiny foil backer to reflect the heat, also found near where you found the poly foam, and used to mould into cavities where plumbing should be protected from vibration and noise.

You can buy insulation at your local hotrod shop that'll not only reduce noise, but keep engine heat out of your passenger compartment. You can also use "Q-Pads, available at any better body shop supply house.
Another idea is to convert your engine to hydraulic lifters. Helps a lot.

shag carpeting. You do not want to kill the sound 100% because you listen to the motor whine to know the proper time to shift.
