No, 'bucky,' that's incorrect. But that's probably about the same percentage of sober Irishmen.

Did you know that 87.24% of all statistics are fabricated? A military ID card is NORMALLY all that's required when in a foreign country on leave or under orders, but it is highly recommended to have a passport that does not show one is a member of the military. Case in point was when that SEAL was murdered and thrown off the plane by Middle Eastern young men several years ago. When I was sent to the Middle East in 1978, I was issued a diplomatic passport and used it to travel. Since I retired, I have always had a passport as a 'just in case.' That 'just in case' landed me a good project assignment in Sicily a few years ago. I was one of the few who were qualified for the assignment who had a passport.

No, you do not have to be in the military to have a passport. Most military do have the brown cover "Official Passport" to travel with as some countries require it, because your orders and ID are no good there. However, this passport is only valid when on official travel with the Govt.

My husband has been in the Army 14 years so far and both times that we were stationed overseas we were told that its highly recommended that we get passports, so we dont have to show our military I.D. cards to "others". So my husband, our son and myself all have a passport.

It's kind of doubtful...
Passport holders are either traveling abroad on holiday or business.
Military people travel abroad on military ID's and are generally not abroad on holiday.
