I work in a very competitive sales environment and I am the youngest female and blonde. One of my co-workers who is unattractive and bossy turned on me for no reason and has now stolen a big account from me. Our boss will allow this because she is a BIG producer and a veteran salesperson. He tries to trivialize the matter and says the deal will never close. I know for sure it is closing and the payoff is big.Our boss will not confront her bc she always throws her toys and get her way. This is so wrong. If I make a fuss over it, I will never get leads. What to do???

You need to speak to your personnell department and complain about favoritism with this girl and its effecting your productivity. That means they are losing out on your revenue too as you feel awful this is going on.
When your personnel speaks to your boss, he will side with them and that will be in your favor.

Listen, every dog has its day, so you could sit tight, let her have it, but give it a month and either you will be reaping rewards or she wont be.

There is not much you can do, the boss is the boss, and if he won't support you, you're out of luck and a big commission. I worked in sales for a lot of years and right now I am unemployed. All of these sales opportunities have come my way and at this stage in the game, I just don't want anything to do with sales. I do have an associates degree in accounting, so that's the direction I'm heading. I just can't play those games. And it doesn't get any better no matter where you're working. Sales is sales and it's a cut throat business.

Just my opinion!

do you have documents to prove that the account was originally yours?

can you talk to another boss who is influential aside from your boss about it?

is there a history of stealing big accounts? if yes, are these people willing to stand by you and testify as well?

if yes to above questions, go to the other boss with your proof but be very professional about so you wont sound like a tattler.

But be ready for the events that may happen afterwards bec. by doing this, you are opening a can of worms. Just think that you are doing this to stop the bossy ways of the senior salesperson (who knows, she may have victimized somebody else) and also the wrong leadership/management of your boss.

just remember to think through your actions in bringing this up to higher management -be prepared with facts, witnesses and documents. dont tell on her without being prepared and being emotional so that you can think straight.

find yourself another job obviously this boss has let personal friendship get in the way of business.I had this happen once . a co-worker asked me if I had washed my hands after using the bathroom ,and when you went to the office manager she said well what do you want me to do about that ? this was a very small office and they let personal friendships interfere in business . good luck in finding another job .

Survival of the fittest is centuries old Darvins principle.
If you want to continue in marketing field, you have to be offensive all the time- no rest.
Try some other company, there you may get better working environment.

DO THE RIGHT THING AND THAT IS TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT! IF YOU DON'T, YOU WILL NOT ONLY CONTINUE TO HOLD A GRUDGE AND BE MISERABLE, BUT YOU WILL ALLOW IT TO CONTINUE AND THAT IS WRONG. TWO WRONGS, DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT! GOOD LUCK!
