When it is so CLEARLY condemned by the Greek scriptures?

Very good question!!! It is also mentioned throughout the Hebrew Scriptures as well...

(Isaiah 2:4) “. . .And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.”

The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses do not back war, they do not go to war, and they do not take part in killing other people! They believe that "ALL Scripture is inspired of God" (2 Timothy 3:16), and they do not pick and chose what to believe, and what to ignore, but rather they apply all Bible counsel to their lives.

I simple can't get my mind around the notion that war is BAD BAD BAD all ways and I love how the scriptures can be read to encourage or discourage any particular thing. Do you really believe that all the people of the world can live happily beside each other for all time with out fighting. The very essences of a faith is to believe, believe you are right and correct. When someone begins to force that you are wrong in your beliefs then you're forced to change what you believe or fight for it.

I'm not a Christian, but I think I can answer this. It is important to distinguish between aggression and defense. And a Christian can justify defending himself, his country, his friends and his country's allies, all with the same set of arguments. Even "turn the other cheek" cannot mean you have the right to let others suffer aggression at the hands of villains. And "Do unto others" has to include come to their defense the way you would want them to come to your defense.

So as long as we are never on the side of aggression, Christians and non-Christians alike can rightly support defense.

This does not say anything about how easy it is to sort out how a war started, and whether it is indeed defense or aggression.

first of all, i dont think it is condemned by the greek scriptures.... second of all, that is a very good question, because isnt it condemned by the christian scriptures? did jesus not say 'love thy enemy'? and to treat others how you want to be treated.

Now I'm not a bible expert, but if memory serves me I know there was a lot of brawling back in old testement days. Moses wasn't just a prophet... he was a military leader! Remember all the run ins with the Philistines? Yeah, just because one is a Christian doesn't mean that one has to be a pacifist... It's best to love thy neighbor, but if your neighbor isn't very nice then it's ok to take up arms!

TRUE Christians do NOT back wars. As Jesus said at Matt. 5:44: "However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you." Also, at John 13:34, 35, Jesus said: "I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”

TRUE Christians are already applying Isa.2:4: "And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."

True Christians do not back wars and they do not participate in wars for ANY reasons.

True, Christians are not to go to war like terrorists independently, but:

Read them again, Grub, I have a copy of the Greek Septuagint:

The N.T. says governments are ordained by God, and not a terror to the obedient. Jesus and the crucified thieves never said they did not deserve their fate.

It is said of the Roman Empire that their enforcement of laws made it possible for one to walk from Cairo, Egypt to Spain and not be robbed.

Throw away the bundle of keys in your pocked and see how long you have anything in our passive society.

Transgressors will meet their fate. See "What Happens When Jesus Comes" at http://abiblecode.tripod.com Select chapter five.

Because they are more caught up in politics than religion.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. - Ecclesiastes 9:18.

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. - Psalm 34:14.
