You begin your question with a succession of completely unsubstantiated statements!
Why does there have to be more to a person than there (sic) physical being?
When has it been proved that every one has a different energy? What sort of energy? When was it demonstrated?
And if you have actual proof that anyone can 'connect' to another without use of the physical senses, then you are liable, not only to get the next Nobel prize, but to collect the James Randi prize of one million dollars for proof of the paranormal!
It is a disingenuous trick to make highly speculative statements as if they were established, unchallengeable facts. This renders the rest of the question meaningless.
There is no such thing as the soul, not one tiny shred of evidence for there being anything beyond the physical. Live with it!

The concept of the soul was created to explain the life force in living human beings. It is the biochemical and bioelectric energy of the human being. Over time it came to mean more than that and include the mental and character attributes of a person. Even if it is a fiction, its still miraculous that we are here at all, and more miraculous that we can discuss it.

Our view of soul & spirit is hard to explain, but there is no question as to us having them or it. I think when we die, it also becomes a part of the death as that which can be brought back to life. This being a matter of religion and some thing more also; as in just what is air or space?
A soul-mate is evidence of this.

Yes there is definately more to us than our 5 senses and our bodies. We have a soul.
Simplistically, I explain the soul as the part of God given to Adam and Eve that is in His image, and every child born thereafter received a small portion of it. When a mother gives birth, a part of her soul divides off of her like a cell splitting and goes to the child. When we die, our souls return to God in whatever condition they are in. Whether you will be a big person in Heaven is determined by the size of your soul when you get there.

We are spiritual entities having human experiences. Soul mates are spiritual beings who have met each other in a previous life.
