It might be a permissions thing. It might be that you are not the owner of the files on the external hard drive.

If you are using Windows XP Home edition then you will have to reboot in safe mode and login as the Administrator.

Then click on My Computer and navigate your way to the external hard drive. Right click a folder and select Properties and then Security. You then then need acquire ownership of the folder and all subfolders (if there any).

Not a lot of information to go on here but guessing this is an usb external hard drive . So it is a system 32 error code that could be a read configuration error , may be as simple as a cookie has tuned off your usb support . So go to control pannel / system / Hardware / device manager /double click disk drives and see if your external drive is registering . if it is without an asterix by the side of it that rule out a usb problem . But if it is then dissconnect your drive from the usb and remove it from the device manager . you do this by clicking on your drive icon ,right clicking , and then uninstall .
replace the external hard drive in the usb and reboot . this should then find the drive and install it in the ususal way. if this doesn't work more information would be needed to save your collection good luck ......vortash
