Yes, you are at risk, but that doesn't mean you can't. I know diabetics who have successfully healed tattoos.

But you definately want to discuss it with a doctor, and with your tattoo artist in order to determine what your best course of action is.

I am a Type 2 and I have over 20 tats. I do take a bit longer to heal than a healthier person, but as long as I keep my blood sugars in check; I have found this not to be too big of a problem. Another thing that can sometimes happen is you can get scabbing in some areas. If this happens, please wait over a month for the art to heal completely before going back to get touch ups.Other than that, I see no real differences in my tats versus the tats on a non-diabetic.

I have type one diabetes and I have 4 tattoos and several piercings. I have never had a problem with healing (although my blood sugars are well maintained). You should be ok as long as you take the necessary precautions: keep it clean, follow the after care instructions to a T, and make sure you go to a reputable artist who uses needles only once.

diabetic peoples bodies take longer to heal than regular people.. when they get piercings..tattoos or just get a cut or step on a nail.. anything that cuts the skin... or hurts it...than people without the disease.. so you might want to think about that.. also diabetic people are at a higher risk of infections.. being diabetic isnt a death sentense..its just they have to be more aware of their bodies and the risk they take when getting these types of procedures done... so good luck in whatever ya decide.. and a hug

my friend is diabetic and she has tattoos and shes fine. I would say if your an uncontrolled diabetic then you might run into problems otherwise it just might take a little longer to heal and make sure you have everything you need with you at the tattoo shop (something to eat or drink, insulin if you use it) and you'll be fine.

there are many people with diabetes that have tattoos. i believe that as long as your diabetes is controlled and you generally are in good health there should be no problems with it at all. darren one of the artists at miami ink is is a diabetic and he has tons of tattoos. you should probably consult your doctor to make sure that a tattoo would be safe for you.

they do have problems, mostly in the healing and it differs with your placement. my sister is diabetic and has her ankles tattooed and each time something was added, what would take 2 weeks to heal on me took 3months to heal on her. if you know your body and know that healthy enough that you shouldn't have too big of a problem, just tell your artist and keep an eye on it during the healing process.

I'm not really sure, but my cousin is diabetic and he got a tattoo. He was fine. But i guess it depends on your body. Everybody is different.

Yes even the smallest cut if it doesn't heal can cause major problems for diabetics. A tattoo is asking for major problems.
Diabetics have a harder time with the healing process.

Wounds are healing slower in diabetics. Always a risk of infection due to the lower immune factor. Is tattoo such an important thing to have? If it was, we would all be born with one.
