I never see advertisments for motorbikes on television, and all I see is advertisments for cars. Motorbikes are more dangerous, but mainly because there are too many car drivers around that are ignorant of motorcylists. Why don't I see enough variety of sensible commuter bikes being advertised to the general public? All the hype is around little scooters, cruisers, and sportbikes. What about just general purpose motorcycles for everyday transport?

That's an excellent question. Besides the fact that gasoline motorbikes get excellent gas mileage compared to cars, there's already a fleet of electric motorbikes out there. Some are scooters with limited speeds, and some can reach highway speeds. Perhaps marketers think the motorbike crowd is mainly kids who want to live fast and dangerously. But there are plenty of electric motorbikes out there for every need. They make the commute more fun, as well as greener and cheaper. And when you ride one, they are eyecatching and people always are full of questions about your vehicle.

I would say that for most people the route they take would be too dangerous for the average person, because many people have to use the highway. Unless there are well known routes that people could use it would not be too popular.
However, a bike that is as easy to use as a scooter but with the power of small motorcycle could be useful.
From what I understand, scooters and such are popular in Asia and other countries (Europe, etc...).

because large corperations are "driving blindly" the right hand knows nothing of what the left is doing.. this will change, the japanese manufactures will be soon pumping out a mid size bikes that are fuel injected and as trouble free as there cars and yes it would make a excellant marketing tactic that will target 60%of the non motercycling public and 80% of current bike owners. i also believe that the age of the side-car has finally arrived for america
i have a 30 mile commute, one way. it is through some of the most scenic rural river, bay, estuarys in america and have long wanted a bike but before bush[w] could not justify one in the family fleet.
so thanks "dubuuya" for causing yet another forign purchase just to put food on my table.

Look at it on a per seat basis and motorbikes are worse than cars. A 150 HP motor with one seat is worse than a 150 HP motor with 5 seats. The maximum number of people per engine is called public transit.
There are scooters available that sip fuel or are electric, but they are illegal on the highway, they can't go fast enough.

nicely.... many refer to motorbikes (motorcycles) as Iron horses. i might have a problematic time choosing between a rapid bike and a stay, rapid horse. automobiles are too confining.
