dear friend,
between rum & whiskey the choice will defer from individual to individual.....but if you are a person who likes to enjoy the flavour of alcohol with malt & the grain then whisky ( rather scotch) it is you may especially prefer the single malts like laphroig or isle of jura, in scotch royal salute & black label is best, in case of indian brands i personally prefer only one MCDOWELLS single malt, however i would give second spot to haig & third to antiquity & fourth signature...... if u like to have your alcohol mixed with colas or juices then rum is the drink for you, you can have a bacradi or good old old monk...the only 2 good rums ( except jamican golden rum which is not available easily) you can have rum with coke with a slice of lime or try out with orange juice...... i also prefer beer & wine as both have health benefits (AS LONG AS YOU DRINK IN MODERATION).............so try out & find out for yourself wether you are a RUM or WHISKEY or BEER & WINE person.......drink moderately & responsibly...CHEERS

Most will never have tried an aged single barrel rum, like Gosling Family's Aged Rum. It's the approx. the same price ($100 at my shop) as a Medium aged scotch Oban Distriller's Edition 14 yr old. So comparison between rum and whiskey is inappropriate.
How do you intend to drink.
Neat, or with a dash of water, at the end of the day to relax and unwind. Then the 2 I listed are equally fine.
Or in a high-ball glass, loaded with ice and heaven knows what. Save yourself some money and buy bar brands the afore mentioned Jack Daniels and Appletons are useful.

Whiskey is more popular than Rum, because whiskey is a gentleman's drink.

Vodka: SOBIESKI POLISH VODKA [POLAND] 1.75L Rum: Only one kind I suggest, Pyrat Rum, it's worth spending the money for this. Whiskey: Jack Daniels, Tullamore Irish Whiskey, Jameson Irish Whiskey Gin: Gilbeys Red and White Wine For pleasing the women. You need Berringer White Zinfandel, Moscato white, Merlot red wine. Irish Cream:Baileys is the only kind I would buy. This can set you back around $300.00 You can always just buy one bottle per week or month to build your stock, I suggest looking for bargins and then discovering what you enjoy most. One night with friends can deplete your stock real quick. Have fun.

I much prefer whiskey over rum any day. Crown obviously but Makers Mark is a good one as well. Also you might like Remys just to name a few.

I like Captain Morgans rum . Try mixing Dr. Pepper with a pre-mixed drink called "Mud Slide", blend with ice, and enjoy a rootbeer float with a kick. Whiskey's not as mixable as Rum is..

That's a hard one, like em both in my day but if I had to pick one, it would be Wild Turkey whiskey. Man, that brings back a lot of memories and I guess that is what a good liquor should do.
