Why do you feel guilty about taking medications that help you live your life?

Pain medications do NOT shorten your life span. Where on earth did you read/hear such nonsense? What negative effects? Since when is relief from pain a negative effect?

Actually, living with the pain daily causes more stress to the body and that *will* shorten you life span, and yes, there is research to back that up.

No, you won't become "addicted" nor are you and "addict." You have an illness and are taking medication for it. There is mountains of research saying chronic [meaning long term] pain patients do not become addicted to narocotics.

Fibromyalgia is for life. So, unfortunately, is the pain. If you didn't get pain relief, you wouldn't be able to even pick up your son let alone take care of him or enjoy spending time with him.

You seriously need to change how you think about this. You need this medication. How could taking care of yourself be unfair to him? What is there to feel guilty about?

If you weren't taking pain medication, then it would be unfair to him and you should feel guilty.

What type of painkillers are you taking? You really should see a Rheumatologist. Fibromyalgia can be succesfully treated with medications that do not include narcotics, exercise, and lifestyle changes. You can have better relief from pain and should not shorten your life or suffer negative effects from the medications.

Cowboydoc: Reread my response. I did not say medications are the answer. In fact, medications are key to the treatment. What I DID say is that narcotics are not the answer. They are other medications that will not cause such ill effects and negative consequences. And, you know nothing of my familiarity of the disease so please do not presume so.

Yes your thinking needs adjustment. I'm more interested in what other things you are doing to treat your fibromyalgia? I have found many things that have helped me to reduce my pain levels and have a better quality of life. Instead of worrying about taking pain meds maybe you could read up on other things that have been proven to help people with fibromyalgia to reduce their pain levels. You are worrying yourself unnecessarily.

I have several articles and blog entries on my 360 page that will help you . Please read up and if you need to contact me for encouragement or information about the changes I have made that have helped me I will gladly tell you about them.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia , we can have better lives. It all starts with us and the will and determination to make our lives better. You can do it!

I don't agree with Dee on all aspects of this disease. It's usually someone that doesn't have something like this that think drugs are not the answer, they don't suffer like we do.

There are many drugs on the market that may help you. You say you "drink" the drugs, what are you on.
The doctor can give you drugs that will help without negative side effects. Talk to him and see what he can do.
