They are rude because we're a bunch of nobodies as far as they're concerned and they don't make the effort to keep it polite because we (and our opinions) don't matter to them. If they make us mad, the most we can do is report them and have the answer deleted as a violation of the rules but it's not like there would be real consequences. If they're rude to their spouse, boss or a police officer, THEN there's consequences.
I've had people that asked question ADD to their question just to put down my answer when I was trying to be helpful and polite. There's just a lot of whack jobs here.

Sometimes what seems like a mean answer is nothing more than a truthful answer that the asker does not agree with. People really ask some ridiculous questions and like it or not if you ask a question about what to do for your very sick or dying pet you will get some well deserved nasty answers. No one should have to tell anyone to take their obviously sick animals to the vet, that should be common sense. I mean, even if the asker is claiming they can not afford a vet there are many humane societies that will help for a very small fee and sometimes free, depending on income, but to sit and watch their pets suffer till death is more than cruel. However, I feel that if you can not afford vet care you should not own an animal. As for breeding questions, if you have to ask how, what or why on YA you do not need to breed.

There is a fine line between being nasty and just trying to get a point across.
Some people are just downright rude. Ignore them. It's easy enough to do.
Others especially when it comes to breeding or not taking an obviously very sick animal to a vet get frustrated trying to get across how it's not a good idea to be breeding your labradadoodleshepeherd with your best friends Rottiedobiepit. Or that a dog with Parvo will not get better if you give it a Tylenol and wait to see what happens.
I always try to be polite and helpful, but I do get frustrated when I give a truly educated answer only to get a bunch of thumbs down from people who don;t know what the heck they are on about and think they know it all (Which I know I don't.) After 30 years in animal rescue I do feel I know a fair bit though, but do I let these people hurt me... no. Sadly it's their animals that will suffer.
I think a lot of the spiteful answers probably come from kids who are messing around or adults that are drunk. It often appears that way anyway to me anyway.
Just look out the good people on YA. There are many more of them than there are who only want to hurt peoples feelings.
If you want real nastiness try the religion board. Man they can be mean there.

I agree with you. Some people are just after the points. Me, I prefer to help people out. I get more satisfaction out of doing that. I have also noticed when some people give an answer, it does not match the question. They must not be reading it properly either. Thanks for speaking up. Good point you made there.

Some people deserve a rude answer. If their question is *my pet is suffering what should I do?* they deserve all the abuse they get because it's obvious that the pet needs to see a vet.
But I agree, some people are just rude for the hell of it, and I expect in real life they're subservient gits who'd never even have the courage to look anyone in the eye let alone be rude to them.
Edit: I bet all you thumb-downers know exactly what I'm talking about, eh???
Another edit: I just have to say that if people can't afford the fees at a charity-run veterinary clinic (where you don't even have to pay if you can't afford to) THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE THE PET.

It seems to me that lot people think the whole purpose of Yahoo Answers is to see who can win with the most points. They have no idea how to answer a question so they get obnoxious for the 2 points. I have seen a lot of ahole answers followed by "Thanks for the 2 points".

Some people just seem to think that they now all the circumstances and all the answers and throw their personal
opinions at others. These people are not intelligent as to think an opinion answers a question. In essence they are bullies, ignorant, rude and uncaring people. Lots of that goes on here. I'm appalled. They snap and bite, are untrainable unlike our canine companions.

That is the world we live in.
Once upon a time, manners were used and people cared.
Now, it seems like someone is always wanting to ruin things for others. Isnt that sad.
