Spider bites can often be rather painful.
Depending on his condition, you may want to try the following:
1. Wash the bite area with soap and warm water.
2. Apply an ice pack or cold dressing.
3. Apply a topical OTC ointment advertised for bite and sting relief. A little Tylenol would help reduce some of the discomfort. Antibiotics (ointments and prescriptions) would not be helpful unless the bite becomes infected.
4. Don't try to cut or suck out the poison. That's just hogwash and only causes additional injury.
5. If his condition doesn't improve after a few hours, or his condition worsens, seek medical attention.
If at any time he experiences difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling in the face, lips, mouth, or throat, call for EMS immediately as it may be a sign of a potentially life threatening allergic reaction.
As I cannot obviously see your father, you'll have to rely on your own subjective judgement. If you feel his condition is serious, don't hesitate to call a doctor. Good luck.
