I used to shower all the time with my contacts in....but wouldn't let the water hit me directly in the face. I have very sensitive eyes and even tap water would irritate them with the flouride and chlorine treatments from the water plants...and my eyes would get pretty dry...and the contacts too.

If this happens, you need to have rewetting drops immediately after your shower to help get the eye and contact lubricated.

You can shower with contacts...but my advice would be to avoid getting the water and soap in them. Wash your face separately so you have more control over this. Seems to work just fine for me!

I was advised not to shower with my contact in, but I think that was more to do with the risk of accidentally flushing it out. I was also advised that, if I had a lot of problem getting a contact out, having a shower and flushing my eye with the warm water might help. I use daily one-use contacts, which are a lot thinner, but it might not help in your case, going by what you say. I'm sure if you rang the optometrist where you got your contacts from, they would give you the right advice.

I don't have a problem with it myself. You just have to close your eyes when you're rinsing out shampoo and stuff (which I would imagine you'd do anyway). Maybe you had just worn your contacts for too long and that's why they were hard to get out. I DO have that problem sometimes, especially if I've napped in my contacts. The shower could just be a coincidence.

(I assume) It really depends on what kind of contacts you have.

I've got disposables that I use for about a week running, and the largest problem I've ever had with them in the shower is accidently flushing them out and losing them down the drain.

[Edit] Ooh, possibly also the hardness of your water. Steam?
Actually, I just don't know. I DO know that I've never had that particular problem.

well, not permanent contact lenses are supposed to be softer. i take showers with them on and the pnly problem is soap in my eyes! then it hurts a lot and my lenses bother me too! maybe it's the water that makes the lenses hard.

Sometimes that happens to me, but I think it is from the steam. Wait awhile before taking them out so they can soften up. You can take showers with contacts, but obviously, dont wash your eyes or use soaps on your face because it can get in your eyes and irritate your contacts.

Well, if you have Permanent contacts would be no problem, only when you wash your eyes, closed it, and clean it softly, the same way when you dry it. For disposable contacts I don't think that you can wear them when you shower. Good Luck
