Imagine the dent in the church budget if they actually paid professionals to be bishops, stake presidents, etc.
Pass the hat a'gin, boys. Bishop's Hummer needs new tires...

How would that possibly change my perspective? Like any other world wide organization, an organization that owns real estate across the entire globe, there are operational costs. The Church carries out world wide welfare and public assistance efforts daily.
All of this requires operating costs? Would it be realistic to think it is all done by itself? No, it is realistic to think that there are employees needed to carry out the work necessary to run a world wide organization.
It would be rather naive to think that all of this would be accomplished on a totally "volunteer" basis. Furthermore, the LDS Church is not the only church with operating costs and employees. Every other religious denomination in the world has a "paid" clergy. In other words, employees.

organized religion was created by man to control the masses. It still works. The truth : The relationship you have with god is between him and you, noone else. When you go before him on judgement day. It will be you alone answering the questions. The best advice I ever heard was to practice love/fellowship here all you can. Try hard not to judge others and ask father to please help you lose your desire for this place. Judging is the work of the fallen one and he has cleverly snuck into the churches, the fallen one has many good christians thinking it is ok, even a duty to judge others.
I promise if you spend your life judging others, even in the name of god, you will NOT see him at the end.
sorry I got carried away. As for the money in the churches you would not believe the amount.

No, it doesn't. The church is, to a certain extent, a business, albeit a non-profit business. Many churches and denominations have people who work for them and are paid a salary, with benefits.
I might have a problem with 1500 employees, but then, what do I know, I don't live in Salt Lake, or even in Utah. And I don't want to.
So, no, I don't have a problem with my money going to pay people to run the day to day business of the church.

Why not require ALL "organizations" -- and non-profit and/or charity orgs to open all their books up so we can see, analyze and fiscally compare one to another...and THEN based upon that make some kind of determination as to whether we should alter our perspectives of all of these establishments?
