Have you ever seen a sales man that didn’t look sharp? They and Mormons are trying to leave good impressions on people. The times are changing and Mormonism is trying to keep up, and at the moment in are culture it looks professional to keep clean cut, hence why the church encourages members to keep clean cut.

I couldn't help but laugh when I was reading other people's responses. Oh boy, the negativity.

Anyhow, there's nothing wrong with rocking a mustache, beard or goatee if you're Mormon. Actually, there's a guy in my ward that's going with the Moses look. It's actually pretty funny.

The Church has no stance on facial hair except when it comes to the missionaries. They must be well-groomed and clean cut, as they should be...they are representatives of the Lord. Would YOU want a couple of dirty, scruffy, messy, bearded-up, un-groomed guys knocking on your door trying to preach to you about God when they look like bums?

I think it's safe to say "probably not."

12 years ago my Stake President had a beard. There are at least 4 or 5 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with mustaches. I have a preference for someone a little fuzzy.

I heard an elder addressing the topic at BYU, where beards are restricted. He basically said that there was a period of time when beards were the accepted social norm, and that period might one day return. Until then, young men were expected to respresent themselves as clean-cut.

As I have pointed out before, being punk and mormon, was nto a good thing, I was clean looking anymore and most people thought I was on drugs ro violent when I went to church with my orange mohawk in the 80's, I called myself agent orange. I was wild thing when I went to basic with white hair and poison ivy with copper looking hair. I stopped being punk when I ran into a lot of gay women in the army that thought my tomboy nature was really a wannabe gay person.
Being punk in UT, was fun moshing it up until their was a rumor that the mormons burned down the punk club, but they never burned down Raunch records were we always got our punk rock music from.

Everything within the church is your own decision.
If you have a go-tee then you have one. The church is not going to pin you down and shave it off. Within the church they encourage members to look sharp, and clean cut. They will accept you for who you are. Im sure your go-tee makes you look stunning but try a clean cut. it might just make your face look that much more brighter.

I think that the reason theh missionaries are to be clean shaven is because they don't want them hiding behind facial hair. Also, many people seem to think that facial hair is something to be wary of.

I am an ex-mormon and the church frowns upon men with facial hair and just long hair in general.

They think you live an unholy lifestyle!

I wonder if in a few decades some of us old hippies end up as temple workers.

"Far out, Elder Dude, you look totally Jesus-like, man!"
"Groovy Brother. You want fries with those endowments?"
